Default can anyone recommend a good driving day track experience?

toyed with the idea of brands hatch but seems they limit their single seaters and the day is just the single seater and a sporty megane.

then looked at castle coombe and they do a package driving ford focus, single seater,WRX and elise. looks like a much more fun packed day (although i don't know if they run with restrictions to the cars)

must confess i'm not too clued up which tracks are near to me (kent) and don't mind travelling a bit (2-4hrs), but it's got to be worth it obviously

anyone got any tales to tell?

If you drive a scoob then try your dealer for a day out at Castle Combe.

yep a palmer motorsport sensation day, not cheap but way way better than anything else I have done, most of these driver days are nothing more than 30mins *actual* driving time. You get to drive so much stuff as fast as you dare and the whole day is very well organised.

did you do this as part of a corporate day mate or on your own/with mates?

wondering if they look after you a bit better if you're not on your own(as i'll be)?

Best part of a grand for 1/2 a day when I asked last month

But as said above, you do get to drive the cars, rather than have silly limits and rules set - and they told me that.

I did driver training at Mallory park. It was a 2 hour session and including the tuition I spent 1hr 45 mins killing a Leon Cupra R round the circuit. The last stint was 50 mins solid. The brakes were fooked and smoking by the end of it but the car held up well.

Not sure of the price as it was a present but I think around £200. I would recommend it 100%, not only did I get to thrash the daylights out of soemone elses car BUT I got excellent tuition at the same time.

I was lucky enough to do it as part of deal the local paper were running in conjunction with a charity. I paid about £400 but that was in 2000, last time I checked it was about £650 to do the motorsport sensation and that is a full day. You dont need to be part of a corporate but I think you need to get a team of 12 people together to do it though. Its a million (no kidding) times better than any other driving experience!

If you do the Bedford one do you get to drive the car 'properly'?

I only ask as a friend of mine did a Ferrari experience, but wasn't allowed to take the car over 60mph or 4000 rpm.

Palmers is the *only* driving I have done where you can drive the cars absolutely ***** out I think they have deals with the manufacturers who loan them out for six months or whatever so palmers dont own them and dont care basically! On all the circuits the instructors tell you to ignore the braking points and jump on the brakes right at the last minute! I smashed the front fog on a classic scoob hitting a cone at 90 and didnt have to pay for it!

I did the palmersport day last year. Can defiantly vouch that it is the most fun you'll have with your cloths on. Really is superb and you get to drive the cars as hard as you dare. When I was out in the Nissan 350z, the instructor was pulling the handbrake as I wasn't giving it enough sideways. Some of the instructors are really good, but there are a few that aren't so good. One of the most memorable bits of the day was spinning the JP1 at just over 100mph. Now just got to try and get invited to go this year.

ah, gotcha!

think i used up all my brownie points with my dealer when i had their 05 sti demo, kicked the **** out of it and put on about 300 miles in a day

didn't go over the 4k limiter though. just like he asked

will give the palmersport people a bell tommorow just to get a cast iron price for the day, sounds excellent but will probably be out of reach of my pocket!

just off to look at the mallory park website, gutmann pugs' experience sounded pretty good

thruxton's not a million miles away from you bud.

I took their 911 Turbo around the track, which happens to
have one of the fastest corners in the country, and it was excellent.

I'm hoping to go back again this year to drive the Gallerado !

how was your day there? any restrictions on speed or revs?

now i've started looking i can see i'm going to struggle to make my mind up what to go for! each track site i look at has something i'd love to do, thruxton for example does a 1-on-1 intensive package in an exige which, again, looks the bollox.

i can see peoples feedback of these experiences will be much needed

well phoned up palmersport just now, as expected price is quite dear but is bracketed for different months of the year which helps

mar/nov/dec is £717 all in (car insurance added which waivers the £1000 excess you would have to pay if you bent one of their cars )

apr/aug is £736 all in

get about 15-20 mins in each car which adds up to about 70 laps

That'll be me down for april then **** it, you only live once!

Did the Palmersport day in July - bloody fantastic, but as many have said. It ain't cheap. I was lucky enough to have a £1000 Red Letter Day voucher from my last firm - most of it was spent on this day (the rest went on a rally day at Bill Gwynne ). The whole day is very well run. Blasting the JP1s at nearly 150 mph will live long in the memory (as will winning the 350Z sprint outright ). I think the most fun I had was in the Clio Cup racers - what a laugh they are. Highly recommened.

I was talking to a customer today who had done the Motorsport experience at Thruxton - he spoke very highly of it, so that's got to be worth a look too.

Chris
