Roadrunner Utd - metal fans - you NEED this album!...
Just picked up Roadrunner United - 'The Allstar Sessions'.
For any metalhead this is the perfect compilation album. Every type of metal is represented - I've been blown away by the quality of the music.
Roadrunner (music label) selected 4 current artists to be 'team captains', who then selected a core band of musicians and guests - all present and past member of Roadrunner bands! Get the version which has a dvd of the making of the album (and get to see that Joey Jordison really can play that fast and it's no studio trickery! )

Seem to have drifted away from metal since my youth... Used to love Fear Factory, Machine Head, Sepultura (and still love Maiden).
Whats new on the scene? Unless I'm missing things everything recent either sounds too heavily influenced by Priest/Maiden (even though Maiden now sound soooo much better these days, but I'd rather listen to ANY Maiden than sound-a-likes), or there's all these EMO-whiney-American types with diaries etc...
Feel free to point me in the right direction!

Fear Factory and Machine Head are still going strong (Sepultura less so since they lost Max).
Apart from those two I mostly listen to -
Slipknot (equal to the hype, not a bad album made)
Type O Negative - doom
Arch Enemy - thrash for 21st century
Lacuna Coil - Evanescence but good
Mudvayne - post nu-metal
Strapping Young Lad - the aural equivalent of an atom bomb
System of a Down - post nu-metal
Cradle of Filth - black metal
Dimmu Borgir - black metal
Disturbed - post nu-metal
Lamb of God - thrash for 21st century
thats for starters!
I'm sure the usual suspects will be along shortly to add some of their favs!
