Employer/HMG reclaiming tax
What are the rules on employers/HMG reclaiming unpaid tax through one's pay? Basically, my wife has been on the wrong tax code (apparently) for the last few months - her employers didn't say anything just recouped all the unpaid tax in one go in last month's payslip. This meant that her take home was about 48% of what it usually is.... Whilst we have no issues with repaying any tax owed is there not a limit to how much they can take in one go - especially without any notice? Any tax/pay experts out there?

If she has not received any code notification she needs to find out what the employers have received. Then take it up with the revenue. They may well have made a mistake. Do it asap, they will usually put things right quite quickly.
