War of the worlds, some questions...
I just watched this, and have to say was quite impressed....ok, it's not one of the best, but I bet it was worth watching at the flicks......
anyway, some bits either I missed, or were not properly explained...
were the tripods buried from eons ago, or was it just speculation...I got the impression that the lightning bolts were sendiong down things that grew into the tripods...?
what was the red roots stuff growing all over the place?
what was it that killed off the aliens...some bacteria yes, but what?

tripods were buried underground, the lightening flashes i think were pods carrying the aliens?
god knows what the red roots were???
aliens were killed off by run of the mill bacteria, cold virus, flu, etc etc, stuff we have become immune to but as they haven't lived in our environment had no immune system against

i wondered that, but they seemed to manage ok when they came out of the tripods and went into the cellar, they didn't seem to affect the humans either.
not having read the book or heard the musical for about10/15 years i could be wrong though

they were only out an about for a short while though, for long living periods of time maybe they need the atmophere changing red weeds
it did effect the humans, it killed them as they *were* the red weeds

Why did they bother sending the tripod thingys, leave them for years and take over the world years later. Would it not have made more sense to take over the world when they sent them in the first place???

I thought that the red weeds were normal weeds that had been saturated in blood.
The scene in the film where you see the roots of these weeds, is where you see the tripod things sucking the blood out of the humans.
So thinking back to biology class, if you put the stem of a flower in a jar with blue water the petals turn blue etc - so I put this down as blood staining the flowers and the stringy bits that were all over the ground were left over intestines lol
Perhaps I was way off lol

I watched it at the pictures and thought the first half was great on the big screen.
i thought the red stuff was blood from the people they had captured but could be wrong.

In the book, the aliens come from Mars. Mars is red. When the book was written, no one knew why so Wells used the red weed as a device for illustrating how the martians started to make Earth their own.

Plus, when the Aliens buried the Tripods, why didn't they die of the bacteria then? cos Bacteria is one of the earliest live forms on earth.

I didn't mind the family stuff but it seemed to me that Stevie S was using it as a way of hiding the fact the back story about the aliens wasn't really thought out.
Read the book...it's much much better!

In the book the martians didn't intend to bring the red weed with them, the brought some seeds and stuff by accident, hence the name weed.
