Is there a throat infection doing the rounds?
Anyone else got a gunged up throat that feels like you've swallowed a razor blade and a pint of glue and giving you ear ache?
Thought i'd ask here if its doing the rounds as a virus before wasting my time of going to the doctors, waiting in a room full of people coughing and sneezing for an hour then to be told go home and take paracetemol

...and given it's a virus, there's nothing the GP can give you for it, so don't waste their time.
Plenty fluids (not booze!), painkillers of your preferred variety, rest, will help soothe/ease the pain.

I've had a terrible throat infection since last Tuesday, and it's only now just starting to get a little better. I've been living on constant painkillers - interleaving iboprofen and paracetemol, and swallowing food and even drink has still been agony.

What a time of year to get it as booze is the worst thing for a bad throat

Been off work with the same thing sice last Tuesday.
Went to the docs on the Wednesday and was told it was a viral throat infection. Symptoms were really sore throat, blocked nose/sinuses and sore ears.
Thought I was getting better, but by Saturday I had also developed a really bad cough too, keeping me awake ost of the night. Not been to the docs for about 6 years, then when I get there she goes oh just take paracetamol and gargle with salt water!

Strepsils extra. i.e. the ones with the anesthetic and antibacterial action (not the normal cough candy variety, which will do sweet FA) will numb the pain and deal with the infections caused by bacteria. If your symptoms don't improve within a few days, go to your GP, you may need antibiotics. If its a viral one, antibiotics will do no good though and its just a case of numbing the pain and toughing it out. Gargling with Disprin helps, as does salt water. Get lots of Vitimin C to help your immune system slug it out and no late nights on the tiles!!
Feel better soon.

There is definitely something going round this way. I started to feel ill last tuesday and haven't seemed to have shaken it off yet. I've got the usual sore throat, headaches, body aches etc etc.
Its come at a really awkward time for me as I was in Gemrnany at the weekend for a xmas do, and have got another work do tomorrow night! There's nothing worse than feeling ill when you should be out getting drunk!

Most have it in my office. I break up this Thu and I just know what's going to happen.... I'll get it for Xmas as usual! Already got a slight sore throat.
+ 2 other blokes in same office have had serious "runs" for the past week
Now that I do not want!

Would be interesting to know how many poeple who have this "plague" are smokers, and how many are still smoking.

The best thing I've found for sore throat is to gargle with a medicated mouthwash called Oraldene. Works really well.
When the cough starts we use a bowl of steamy water with menthol and eucaluptus.
We've all had it in our house
Horrible time of year everyone is run down.
Hope you feel better soon
