Question Driveshaft materials

i drive a GT6 and the power im goingto be putting through it will shred the current 1/2 shafts. whats the best material to makethem out of to withstand 200bhp or so without ruining them. At current, 4 woodruff keys broken, 2 UJs destroyed and 3 shafts sheered @ 160bhp in my mates GT6.

any ideas of a better material?

cheers

Question

Where's the shaft shearing? it sounds like the things connected to the shaft are causing you problems; not the shaft itself.

Cheers

It could be driving style thats causing the failures.... Has he looked at other models in the then-current Triumph range to see if they are transferable? If the driveshafts from say: a TR6 or a 2500 are similar then theyll provide a cheap and easy upgrade.

isnt driving style. Puts foot down in 3rd and they just pop or twist or sheer woodruff keys. Basically the standard triumph stuff cant take it, so wanting to make a batch of shafts for me and my mates higher powered cars
eg.

I second that

www.driveshaft.co.uk

They can custom build shafts for rally teams, touring cars and formula racing. They also do the regular road car stuff too.

Perhaps some sort of metal would be good, wood may have been fine in 1925 when it was built but not nowadays with modern power.

Sorry, couldnt resist.

Well my reactions are and in equal measure. I was wondering if they'd write it off given the age of the car and the mkt value. Same shocking pink?
