Any Scalextric enthusiasts?
Looking at getting my 8 year old a scalextric set, just reserved him the Batman set in our local modelshop.
Whats changed over the last 20 years as have seen stuff like digital racing with 6 cars running at one time etc? What is there about now to make it exciting? Also see a drift set which looks
I used to love my Scalextric stuff as a kid and built up a huge collection before flogging it (very regreattably now) as a teenager for £50 at a boot fair I hope I can get my 8 year old into it like I used to like it.

I think the track is the same, just the cars that are different. The car can do a 360 round the slot and end up going back the way it came!

We got the Starsky and Hutch on earlier this year. IIRC the new tracks have different connections - so if you want to add it to old tracks you will need a special bit with the different connectors at each end to attach it. Worth the hassle though - ours is a monster!!!

Wifey got me the scooby v's evo set a couple of years ago. Track was the same then as it was in the 70's. I think I need a bigger transformer now cos the cars slow down quite a bit before the hairpin at the bottom of the kitchen. (They are ok through the living room, dining room and hall though)

Double checked with father in law and we deffo had to get the connectors with the Starsky and Hutch one (we were connecting it to track from the 80s)!
Another thing - how flimsy are the cars nowadays? I broke the wing mirror off one of the the first day we got it

This tread has put a smile on my face, not had a Scalextric for years but do fancy one
Does anyone remember TCR Total Contro Racing where the cars could swap lanes at the flick of a button - great stuff and still come up on Fleaybay from time to time.

Paul thats what I had before Scalextric, worked for four hours on Xmas day and was one of the most memorable presents I had as I was so impressed with the way the cars could overtake each other When it bust after 4 hours my Dad spent ages trying to fix it but couldn't get it working and took it back Boxing day and swapped it for Scalextric At first I was gutted as Scalextric wasn't a patch on TCR but once I expanded the track and got loads of cars like the old Police Rover with working sirens and lights I got into it a lot and thats why I hope my eldsest will like it.
Have seen the TCR tracks on fleabay and been so tempted but know it would be wasted money as it never took off for the very reason they never lasted and always broke

I've had TCR since late 70's. It got years of use and abuse. I dug it out a couple of years ago for the kids and it still worked. The tyres were completely knackered though, and I haven't quite got round to looking for new ones

I advise avoiding eBay for track, unless its new. Sport track looks like it will wear better than the classic type though. Id buy Scalextric Sport track and Carrera, Fly and Ninco cars.

lol- I got the 'hot pursuit' pack for Christmas last year - Scooby Vs Police car!
Played with it over Christmas and hasn't been out the box since. Good fun though. I got the RMS system to link up to the Laptop for Telemetry!
Track is different to 80's stuff but you can buy convertors.
They have a new digital sport system now. Allows single lane racing, swapping lanes and can race against people all over the world V T'internet.!!
I haven't took it that far though....yet. it is a good laugh though and quite stress-relieving.
And I broke the scooby gril after an hour!

Hi FB
Try ebay there are plenty of spares and set on there.

I got mine on Christmas, in 78 i think and it worked for a few months until the pick-up and tyres wore out.
I loved it and am thinking about getting one off of ebay.
