I think that the guy in seat 26 row BB in the Kop who looked at the ball through a corner of an eye in the 12th minute should be awarded the goal TBH as he only had slightly less involvement in the move than Crouch...
Bless his gangliness!! NOT!

It was the epitome of perfection compared to some of Giggs's miss-hits & slices, including his 'wonder-goal' against the ****

it was never crouch's goal , simple as that !! the fact that they have given it to him proves that the dubious goals panel is well dubious !

I think you'll find the ball was already heading that way, Pollitt just helped it along

If you work on the basis of last person to touch the ball, Fabien Barthez & Roy Carroll must be the Prem's highest goal scorers

First goal scorers cant be own goals though can they? He scored the second too, so he was first goal scorer either way

you prove with your own words you are wrong and I believe the panel have it wrong also.

The keeper physically pushed the ball into his own goal. it wasn't a deflection off his hand trying to save the ball. He decided to try and push the ball over the bar but instead pushed it into his own goal. an error on his part that means he scored the goal.

had the situation been a defender on the line trying to head the ball over the bar and instead headed it into his own goal they would have credited the defender with the goal.

But had the keeper not have touched the ball, the ball STILL would have gone into the net. So its Crouch's goal!

If a striker shots and the ball is going in yet another player from his team gets a touch on the line he gets awarded the goal. the fact is to me the keeper deliberately pushed the ball in that direction. The fact is he made an error and pushed it into his own goal.

No, not at all. If the ball is goal bound an an attempted clearance still puts it into the net, then it is not an own goal, irrespective of how crappy the attemped clearance was.

so what if the keeper can easily save it, but just doesn't. just lets it go by him in full knowledge that he could have prevented it crossing the line. Own goal through association in your eyes?

Eh????

excuse me and I know nothing about football but surely everybody know that the last person to touch the ball before it goes in the nest is the one who scored it. otherwise the guy who took the first centre kick could also claim it or maybe the bloke in seat 26 row BB kop end who threw it back after it was kicked out could also claim it.!!!!!!

there is a difference between trying to save a ball and it deflects off the goalkeepers hand and to actually pushing the ball towards your own net. Nobody means to score an own goal (debatable maybe! )
