Arrow jeremy clarkson offends the german's

http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=2408932005

Then, mocking the 1939 invasion that triggered the Second World War, he said it would have a satellite navigation system "that only goes to Poland".

Its not half as bad as the grief he gives americans.

If germans don't like getting ripped for the war they shouldn't have done it in the first place!

Germans up in arms
A rather unfortunate choice of headline.

Great when Cleese did it. Past its sell-by date nowadays. Wish he could come up with something new to say. Smacks of Daily Mail readers to me.

Oh FFS, its a TV program which people have a choice to view or not, - if they dont like it turn it off !
Its not like JC took a full colour spread out in all the papers here and in Germany saying it !
Seem to me to confirm the myth of Germans having no sense of humour combined with PC gone mad ! Or complete lack of understands of JC style of presenting

Many years back (10 at least) he was testing the 'new' MB SL500 and talking about the v12 engine

JC Said something along the lines of 'the last time the germans had a V12 engine in the uk it was at the front of a Messerschmitt 109 during the battle of Britian' - or words to this effect.

Made me laugh

I don't really see how anyone could have seen that and seriously thought that JC wasn't just poking fun, and did not intend the remarks to be taken seriously.

James May's comments about the French, however, clearly weren't just poking fun: he was having a go at them! I'm surprised they did not cause more uproar.

Good lad!! ;-)

People just have no sense of humour these days. Are we never supposed to mention Hitler ever again just cos it may upset a few sausage munchers over the water.

Nothing against Germans, only met a handful in my time and they were all sound enough, but for gods sake it was a joke!!

JC what a legend.
One of the best was when the Indian guy came on and one of the first things he said was along the lines of

"Why come from a beautiful place like India, to live in Birmingham"

I actually fell of my chair.

He has a habit of it, doesn't he? Reviewing the Gallardo (Audi/Lamborghini) he said "I can't think of a good example of German-Italian cooperation since, erm, the 1930s - and that wasn't very successful."

Members of my family offended the Germans by dropping things on them from planes and crawling around in trenches shooting things at them. At the time, in as far as i can recall, the newspapers offered encouragement and even supported the award of medals to those engaged in such actions. With this in mind I'd say it was typical media behaviour: one minute they set you up to do something and the next minute they knock you down for doing it.

I think if we all ignored the media then it would go away and we would all live better and more fulfilling lives.

I saw that episode once on the Sat1 channel, dubbed into German. I have to say it was even funnier than the English version because of the total irony of it all.

The germans dont have much sense of humor!!

this may have been a top gear item,

i heard once a large german auto oem had a big launch for a new car among the bigwigs,, they had a stunt driver drive the car up to a row of cars and do a 180 flick , and park the car perfectly...

all went well in rehersals... sorted...

on the big day ... he rolls past the digs, pulls the handbrake, gets the a*se end out, and flips the car onto its roof , and sails past the rather bemused bigwigs on its roof!!!

i think several people were given new roles after that...

lets face it if they cant take clarkson, theres somthing serioulsy wrong with them

As an Englishman, I take exception to a fat greasy Scotsman raping my bank account every month but I live with it!

The sort of person who has the time to sit and write letters of complaint about a TV presenter getting a cheap laugh (and it was funny) at the expense of another nation needs to get out from under mummy's apron and go and buy a ****

I think JC should really take heed of this, it would be a real shame if he were hounded of the tv due to stuff like this, I suppose it begs the question, how long does a nation need to remain 'in the doghouse' globally speaking for killing 6 million people ?

Perhaps putting up with a smart arsed tv car journo giving you some stick is a small price to pay ?, however I must say if I was a German aged 35 I would be a bit miffed being blamed for something my grandad did, its like me being blamed for the slave trade.

I dont actually think the British are actually still that p1ssed at the germans judging by the number of Mercs, BMW's Porsches and Audi's I see.

Yep, we can laugh about it now. . . . . . . . . . oh no, they've just told us we're not allowed.

I'll go back to being p1ssed off then.

You're probably right and I hope so. The problem with this ridiculous PC age is that people in 'authority' have a habit of listening to the vocal minority .

"The German government is said to be highly displeased: diplomats pointed out that, had Clarkson made the **** salute on German television, he could be facing six months behind bars as, joking or not, such behaviour is illegal under the country's post-war constitution."

But he isn't in Germany! He lives in a land which despite excruciating political correctness still allows freedom of speech. For how much longer this will continue is open to debate.

As far as I am concerned the slaughter of millions of Jews during the second world war should entitle the known universe to take the p#ss out of the Germans for all eternity.

If they feel uncomfortable with this then I am even happier. What their forefathers did deserves to be remembered and even if it takes people like JC to remind them of it and make them squirm so be it.

The first world war obviously didn't put them off.

If the German government are so cross about the programme they should stop watching it....do they watch it live or just the repeats I wonder.

I still think his finest moment was on Radio Le Mans a few years back when describing the (then new) BMW Z3, calling it a **** staff vehicle. It offended a hell of a lot of people, but it was very funny.
