Trouble is CLS, the perpatrators of the Holocaust are either dead or very nearly dead, the last couple of generations of Germans are no more responsible for the Holocaust than you or I, I think of all the nations likely to practice genocide the Germans are currently about the least likely, Jeremy Clarkson for all his Land of Hope and Glory rhetoric does (or did) drive a German car and as far as I am aware never participate in the Battle of Britain.

As a nation we have a murky past but I personally feel no guilt over our colonisation of many countries by force or the slave trade.

He is pandering to the Sun reader with that kind of stuff, the mentality that still refers to them as 'the Hun' when we are talking about football tournaments.

J4CKO - There are massive problems in the "Re-United" Germany
- The New Hitler Youth is in very strong voice trying to "Eradicate" the "Problem"

Which is why we must "Never Forget"...That is not a negative statement. It is a reminder not just for Germany but for everybody. Ignore History at your peril.

Unfortunately these days history relates to what happenend last week. The Blair government would have you forget what history is or at least corrupt it so that you feel ashamed of it.

Unless of course you are amongst Tony's elite when you are so rich it doesn't matter.

no, but his father-in-law is perhaps the reason why he comments on the war often.

I think JC should really take heed of this, it would be a real shame if he were hounded of the tv due to stuff like this, I suppose it begs the question, how long does a nation need to remain 'in the doghouse' globally speaking for killing 6 million people ?
HOW many? Wasn't the 6 million "just" the jews?

Won't do the younger Germans any harm to be reminded of the atrociously evil actions of their recent ancestors. As someone said above, it is a period of history that must never be forgotten. The rest of the nation that stood by and allowed the ***** to carry out their genocide and to progress with their their totally selfish ambitions should not excape a good proportion of the blame either, however much they try to tell us that they did not know what was happening.

We too should remember that such things could easily happen again today in any country should the wrong group of people achieve power. We should be on our guard against such a situation which is likely to be instigated in small steps until suddenly it is too late to prevent it.

I have lived in Germany now for 6 years and I have met many Germans from all ages. I agree that it does no harm to remind the younger generation about what SOME!!! of their forefathers did. Don't lets forget that the ***** were a small part of the German machine. The Germans had soldiers just like we did who were only following orders like proffesionals. The SS and ***** were a different kettle of fish entirely.

anyway as I said I have met many Germans over the years and none of them hold any anamosity towards us, my friends mum in Stuttgart took me down to the air raid shelter under her house that she spent most of the war in and she told me all about sitting down their as a small girl and listening to the bombs, our bombs!! falling and it was really interesting to actually see it from the other side of the fence. The Germans are people just like we are and most of them did not want the war any more than we did. So by all means have your laughs but please do not tar all Germans with the **** brush because it simply is not true.

"If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time-a tremendous whack."

Well said Clarkson , sir!! We must never forget, never!

I think the point is that JC is saying it to an audience of 5 million people, some/most wont take any notice, some will be offended, its a programme about cars, I personally am not bothered but would be gutted if it got taken off and spolit my Sunday night routine for the sake of being nice to Germans.

Remember the situation when he took the p1ss out of an Asian guy in the audience, it wasnt actually racist, we were just taken aback that he had dared, then you think why does the Asian guy not get picked on, surely being passed over for a p1ss take in favour of a white member of the audience is more racist ?

The Hitler Youth thing, quite interested in how high the membership is, I just thought it was a load of deluded little dicks like the British version who make me laugh, you see all macho **** posturing and saluting, worshipping Hitler when in actual fact Hitler would have probably had the lot of them disposed of for being less than Aryan specimens.

In my strange little world... I believe if you have the ability to laugh at yourself...... it gives you the right to laugh at others!

Agree?

absolute pish....There are probably less Right Wing extremists in Germany today than there are in any other large European country. Many acts regarding ****'s and right wing extremist groups and philosophies that are OK in the UK are illegal in Germany.

Completely agree . But I think it's pretty holier than thou to decide it's OK to constantly remind people what their ancestors did, before many of them were even born, when the majority of Brits voted back in someone who would independently be considered as a war criminal last year.

FWIW I think JC's comment is a bit heavy but frankly fair when you consider that he negatively stereotypes Yanks, Frogs, Krauts, Eyties, Aussies, Nips... and I don't think he's particularly flattering about the Brits either.

Gonzales wants to know the origin of Callahan's well-known nickname. One of his associates, De Georgio (John Mitchum) emphasizes 'Dirty Harry's' across-the-board non-racist, and un-bigoted prejudice and hatred for everyone:

Gonzales: Why do they call ya 'Dirty Harry'?
De Georgio: That's one thing about our Harry, he doesn't play any favorites. Harry hates everybody. Limeys, (Beat)Niks, Hebs, Fat Dagos, *******, Honkies, ******, you name it.
Gonzales: How does he feel about Mexicans?
De Georgio: Ask him?
Callahan: Especially Spics.

I agree with Brendan's view of the illegal attack on Iraq but would also mention the incredibly large numbers of people who attended the protest march against it and whose views were totatlly ignored.

As I said, we have to beware of what can become of our country too.
