Things they do to your house once you've left.
I posted this in the hutch, but I thought it was a good idea for an NSR thread
I've just had to call in at our old house tonight for some post we were expecting, and had a quiet nosey while I was there. Horror of horrors- they'd fitted new UPVC doors front and back.
My beautiful stable door - made by my own hands, every glazing bar routed, jointed and scribed personally, each wedged mortice and tenon joint hand cut with mallet and chisel and glued with the finest adhesive available - is gone.
It took me weeks.
You're lucky to be able to even BUY a door made like that these days. The bloody thing's only six years old, an'all.
They did something similar with the rear yard. I flagged it all with repro stone, nice stuff, not ****e, and in the process had to move an ornamental tree. The tree almost died but survived the trauma and grew into a beautiful asset. When they moved in they asked if a car would go on the flags ok, to which I replied in the negative as they were laid on sand and hardcore not concrete.
The following summer they chopped down the tree to provide access to the car - which has subsequently caused some of the flags to crack and cockle.
Fecking FEEEEEEJITS!

Did they pay you for the house?

Ditto the tree..
the flat we moved into prior to our move here had a dwarf japanese cherry,
apparantly the owners son brought some cuttings back from a trip..
afaik there were only three others in the area, presents from the son.
ours was superb flowering twice a year, once with red blossom, the second with white...
the new owners left it, as they thought it cool... however when they sold it the numptys who moved in chopped it down... and one of the other trees, which we know had a preservation order on it!!!
the second tree ironically, was given to the neighbours of the house we moved into... again it was left....
they moved and some new people moved in...
within 6 weeks all trees gone.... the reason, apparantly the survey was concerned the tree roots would undermine the foundations...
ok the trees near the house possible , but the cherry was about 12 feet away
only one left now

Cheery trees dont have huge roots surely..?
A Place we had in the family had a huge magnolia planted several 2 genarations back 3" feet from the house , very attractive and you would have thought part of the house ( 70 year old ) - anyway the new owners had it away.

we built a few houses in braintreee a few years back and the majority of the purchasers were retired old ladies. one by one and with a week of moving in, the new owners painted their stone front door steps with red paint.
if you move in somewhere and it's already been painted, then repainting is sensible, but why paint something that doesn't need it? that's like redecorating your patio...
..oh and another thing - we put cat5e into all new houses, pre-cable for fm and for sky and sky+. then the sky installers come along and drill new holes, running cables all over the outside of what we've spent months making presentable.

Concrete everything over. You can't be too careful. Also why have natural materials when you can have plastic.

Nope. Had the opposite though. Put our last house but three on the market three years ago and had several viewings, the general consensus being lovely house, shame about the quarry tiles though. In conjunction with bodging the kitchen - leave carcassed intact and colour wash the doors plus some godawful tiling done by yours truly, I proceeded to get this horrible tiling layed over the quarry tiles. Sacreligious, I know but I figured the next muppets would soon uproot it to expose the original features.
Anyway, I sold it to this horrible woman from NSW who had just got divorced and proceeded to have many a ruck with her during the selling process (didn't tell her for a week where the pump was for the shower) so I was surprised when we visited our old neighbours to see the kitchen and floor intact. ****ing peasants!
