Police don't like speed cameras either
Alan Gordon, vice chairman of the Police Federation, is reported in the Federation magazine as saying: "The irresponsible siting of speed cameras for income generation has been a highly effective means of eroding public support for the police. Their benefits are strictly limited to speeding offences and do nothing to tackle the array of other dangerous driving offences."
So, there we go. Now, who exactly is it that is still claiming that speed cameras are safety devices? Looks like no one except for a few civil servants who benefit financially from the fines paid by motorists.

Maybe he is in the clear! The other angle on this is that the administration (because they have ISA and satellite tracking up their sleeves) can say "we are listening to the police and the people and we are going to do away with cameras..."
It makes them look good, it makes them seem to be listening to the police and it then allows them to roll out satellite tracking of your every move with less resistance.
Clearly that is only one possible intrepretation of the events of the day, but it is one that is worth of at least a little consideration.
