Question ANOTHER TomTom thread

Sorry, perhaps we need a GPS forum
The old man is after one for Xmas. My mum is looking to get him one that'll do Europe and the US. They spend a lot of time on holiday and specifically in the States.
Which Tomtom Go fits the bill ? I know nothing about them, how upgradable they are ect.
If any will do the job how would it work ?
I am assuming that Tomtom is the one to look at

Any help would be great.

Paul

Tomtom Go 500 + 700 have europe pre-installed - http://www.tomtom.com/products/categ...D=0&Language=1. You can also buy maps of the USA for 149 euros - http://www.tomtom.com/products/acces...y=0&Language=1 (bottom of page).

I bought my dad a TomTom 300 last week for his Xmas (£289 from Dixons) and tried it out when I put the speedcamera database on it. Very very impressive bit of kit. Oh, and very easy to use and set-up (2 min job).

Richard.

The other one to think about is the new TomTom One - smaller than the 'Go's' and a bit cheaper. To be honest, they all do the job. If your parents don't need the bluetooth hands free features, I'd stick to the 300 or One.

So you can add the US maps to the lower end of the range too via a standard SD memory card ?
I think the Bluetooth is more of a 'nice to have' for him.

The 300 has some bluetooth functionality - you just can't use it as a hands free kit. The 500 and 700 have other 'nice' functions, like the one where it tries to guess where you are when it loses its sat signal. NOt nice when you are at the junction of the M4 and M25 and you think it thinks it knows where you are. Other than that the 700 has street level maps of Europe installed on a hard disk. You would have to do some backing up and restoring to get the maps of US on. I would go for the 300 or the Tomtom One and spend a couple of quid on spare SD cards
