I just saw this on the news, TBH im surprised about the uproar.
And also this morning with the 1000th american exectuted there were people calling for capital punishment to be stopped. I mean ffs this guy is a murderer, what justification is there to stop this form of penalty

What if it turns out that he was fitted up? 20 ounces could easily be placed on someone.
If you leave them to rot in jail and it turns out they are innocent then let them out, compensate them etc. If you've already killed them then YOU as the citizen and member of the state are guilty of murder. It's no co-incidence that nearly every civilised country doesn't have capital punishment. Even many/most of the US states don't have it.

If no doubt - death to the scum.

PSL you do realise it was your hero that signed away the death penalty for treason, the last thing you could be executed for. He also has some moral issue about extradition where the person could face the death penalty.

Thing is "if in doubt" then they wouldn't be convicted. Everyone jailed for murder has been convicted "in no doubt" but clearly things go wrong. Who will decide where there is no doubt? Do you trust the courts, the politicians, the police that much?
If you are "willing to take the risk", will you put yourself up for execution if there's a wrong conviction down the line?
Of course, in principle, I'm all up for murdering scum to be executed but I don't trust anyone to get it right and make the decisions. We are a civilised nation and civilised people don't kill people however much we hate them.

But we'll never do that because killing murdering scum infringes on their human rights - we'd have to leave Europe first.

Judging by his current treasonous activities I can see why Blair would want it abolished.

Well the bloke must be blind because it clearly states at the bottom of Singapore's immigration form in big bold red letters "DEATH TO ALL DRUG TRAFFICKERS"
Not as if he didn't know the risks, got what he deserved IMO!

There was a secondary fuss about hanging being the executing method. I suppose death by injection or even firing squad might me more humane........
I seem to recall a big palava some years back when a Brit was given a good number of lashes for a relatively (in our terms) minor offence.

I think the main fuss was about the fact that there was a mandatory death sentence and that in this case there were several mitigating circumstances.
I don't think in this case the punishment fitted the crime, it was excessive, but the law in Singapore meant that there was no flexibility in the sentencing.
Hanging isn't overly inhumane, done properly it is instantaneous (not the death but the unconsciousness) and the body is left intact so can be used for organ donations (not the case for lethal injections)
It's easy to see where Britain goes wrong when those racist axe murderers and the ones that killed the police woman don't face the death penalty.
