Royal Marines busted.

Such homo-erotic initiation ceremonies are odd to say the least.
I remember the ATC squadron (wanabee flyboys) at school reportedly had an initiation ceremony which involved rubbing shoe polish into the new recruit's nads. WTF??
Is homosexuality really this common in the armed forces?

Why dont you pop down to Portsmouth to the HQ and ask the same questions. I am sure someone will 'fill you in'
Not many people know this but in times of war the military are sent to look after our interests (and sometimes for all the wrong reasons eh TBliar) and this may involve getting a bit angry, even fighting and even killing people!
To do this this they tend to have a bit more training than say a few days induction and a works manual explaing how to claim back expenses and mileage. They are taught to do thier job and in the case of the marines very well.
Incidents such as these are unfortuanate and tbh i cannot comment on it as i do not know the full background or even if it is real.
To tar the militarty with the same brush would be like calling all muslims terrorist ***** . Not true

When I was in uni however the the rugby club initiation apparently involved the whole team dipping their choppers into a pint, then the new recruit having to down it
Makes you wonder what happened in the showers after winning a game

Taken from the BBC Text
"The fight appears to have been "directed" by two non-commissioned officers. One was dressed in a surgeon's outfit, the other dressed as a schoolgirl. "
That will be one for Petes chrismas stocking (assuming he is not wearing them) then!

The forces are for those who cannot cope in the real world alone.
They need someone to tell them what to do, what to eat, where to live, who to like, who to hate, who to kill, when to sleep, how to dress, how to act ......
Don't get me wrong ..... we NEED robots like thses to carry out our dirty work.
But they rarely make anything of themselves in the real world after being mummies boys. By mummy I mean the state.

Just to clarify, I usually have a massive amount of respect for our armed forces. The fighting as part of an initiation ceremeny I can buy - afterall that's exactly what they have to do when they go to war to defend us and our way of life..
But why do it naked? That's the bit I don't get!

I would indeed be looking for somewhere to hide and change my pants because I have free thought and am intelligent.
Don't get me wrong, we need brainless tough guys to protect us ...... but lets not get clouded in the thought that they know what the hell they are doing!! They do NOT!!

People that were in the forces tend to understand & accept some of these practices. You either put up with it and become accepted in which case you have no problems from then on. If you don't get accepted then you either leave or go quickly downhill as the sadistic nutters pick on you.
I was in the Navy and some of the strange ceremonies such as crossing the line were fierce.
Must admit I'd love to see the keyboard warriors who slag them off say it in the earshot of a few marines/paras etc.

Not all ex forces are mindless or unable to live outside of military life. Of course the military needs them to folllow orders and do as they are ordered to unless breaking the law.
My brother in law is ex navy. Now in SO19 (and i'll say no more than that) and helps keep us safe. He is a nice decent well balanced chap more than capable of making his own decisions!

Some interesting points here. I indeed admire pslewis' uncomprimising approach to speaking his mind. Very good. However, i think most of the conversation here is a more apt description of the police force than the elite armed forces. Sure there are probably some right idiots, but it takes at least alot of energy and determination to rise to become the 'cream of the cream' (please don't play on these words) in a decent regiment. My brother in law is in a particularly 'choice' regiment, and is nothing short of super-human when he's away in middle-eastern ****-holes, and indeed when he's back home.
As per the needing to take orders: i know what you mean, and if people were more 'concious' we wouldn't have wars in the first place, but in the absence of that being the case we should consider ourselves lucky that there are men - bi-sexual or not - that will try and protect us and stay in religiously torn areas with car bombs, ******** suicide bombers and all the other worst scum in the world, while we stay at home doing whatever we do, which will predominantly be alot 'softer' than what they do.

Make no mistake ............ I thank them for what they do on my behalf!!
They do things I don't want to do .. thats why I pay them to do them!!
However, they have a certain mindset that IS different ........... and unusual, so much so that they struggle with civilian life.
As I said earlier I have family members who are ex-forces .......... they did tours in Belfast and the Middle east, one lived in Hereford for a while.
