Default Does age effect your drinking?

I went out on Saturday night for a mates 40th birthday do at a Golf Club, I am 29 by the way...

Started on pints of John Smiths(the usual) then out came the shots, double zambuka's then a pint after, did this about 6-7 times before i said "If i Sip one little bit more of that pint, i will puke everywhere" so i still had common sense to stop, just not drinking what we were, lol

Well wasnt sick that night as i drank a hell alot of water when i got home, witht he mrs carrying me up stairs. The next day i felt like a train had hit me, now when i was 5 years younger this wasnt a problem, i'd be out playing football the next morning, i felt that bad i stayed wrapped in a duvet all sunday, hoping there was no loud noises or sudden movements.....

Anyone think it had something to do with the food i ate that night lmao, has this decline happend to anyone else?

try drinking water in between your pints

but in answer to your question, I would say yes age probably does have something to do with it.

I used to be out every friday and saturday and some week night's on the ****, couldnt manage it now, I would be on my **** after 2 pints

My hang overs are not so bad now I'm older. Very rarely get them these days, used to have some crackers when I was younger.

Ten years ago I was out every Friday and Saturday and could keep up with anyone. The following morning I would feel fine after a couple of hours and some food.

If I go on a drinking session now I've had it by ten o'clock and feel like death all the following day.

Old age at 36 I guess.

Cheers

Does age effect your drinking?
Not really but the older you get the more mature and sensible you should become and in turn you should realise that you dont need to drink all that to have a decent time on a night out.
Never have got the whole "must drink double shots and get to the edge of puking" thing.
I do enjoy going out and do have an occasional drink but when out with the lads from work there is always one guy that is always on the doubles. Most of us just shake our heads and wait for the inevitable mess at the end of the night.

My trick is to avoid draught beer like the plaugue. I can put bottles of stella and vodka and diet coke away all night, then wake up in the morning as right as rain ( if not still a wee bit swazzed ).

On the other hand, 4 pints of draught grolsh/stella will render me a zombie in the morning, and anything thats 'smooth' gives me the bends.

Hope its not your liver on the way out!

It does get a bit worse as you get a bit older though, I think the capacity to deal with it suffers.

That is what I was thinking - after years of getting hammered your liver wont be as efficient as it used to be.

p.s.- I don't get hangovers - I think maybe my liver has packed up and moved out, so doesn't produce any hangover inducing toxins

I went out to watch the England game on Saturday, early doors drinking, carried right through but had a total of six pints from 4pm until 11pm, also walked about 3 miles between pubs and had something to eat, no ill effects whatever the next day.

Basically you learn as you get older

1/ Its not a race
2/ It can kill you
3/ No need to make yourself ill, you wont enjoy it any more
4/ Drinking after a certain point doesnt enhance, just prolongs the misery the next day
5/ Its expensive
6/ Kids dont know what a hangover is, hence why they dont keep quiet
7/ You wont sleep properly
8/ The missus will get a bag on if you are in a state and make you wear it all the next day, however returning still with the power of speech at the alloted time brings benefits...
9/ The more you drink the fatter you get
10/ you will only be left with 57 pence in your pocket from the sixty quid you got out for that 'quiet night', the 57 p is an eec regulated ammount of money to be left with and is none negotiable.
11/ You aint going to pull, even if you still wanted to.
12/ Drink water, between pints, when you do your teeth and when you get up the ineviatble couple of times for a ****.

I think it all depends how you drink.
At one stage in my life,i was out every night, drinkin between 8 and 11 pints of Stella,no real ill effect in the morning.Just an expanding waistline and detracting pocket.Did this for about 3 years i guess,i seem to hit the wall at about 30yr old.Hangovers started to happen,as did not really remembering what went on after 10ish on the nights out..
Was still doing 20-25 pint alldayers, but feeling bad the next day..
Now 8 years or so down the line,i generally go out once a week, usually midweek and have about 7-8 pints within a couple of hours..That is enough for me nowadays, and i feel rough the day after, but i recently went out at midday and drank till midnight, but only got through 8 or so pints..Was like a spring chicken in the morning!!
IMHO...age defo effects pintage consumption!!

Well old Farmer Smith, a regular at my local, is 68. One long lunchtime to midnight session he scoffed 46 pints of light and bitters. He decided to get a lift home that night.

This is absoluetly true and we know the exact quantity from the number of empty light ale bottles.

So may be when he was younger he could really drink

age definately nackers your ability to take alcohol
mind you sambuca is the devils drink, it's lovely, but as with all spirits its a slow burner you can get a lot inside ya before the 1st one starts to hit then the 2nd then the 3rd etc... by which time your probably downing number 10 or 11 by the time number 6 starts to hit your screwed
try putting a mixer with it.... tequila should do the trick

He was called for a medical check some time back and the nurse asked him how much he drank. He said quite truthfully, "well about 20 pints usually, but more sometimes". She winced a bit thinking he meant in a week and had to be picked up when he explained that was just a typical evening

'Was still doing 20-25 pint alldayers, but feeling bad the next day..'

'46 pints of light and bitters'

Jesus, I think I have gone mad on six pints, at home I used to clear out whatever was there, Start out on the beers, once they had gone start on the wife's Cider supply, and then if really desperate there was a bottle of Grappa, some vile tasting italian petrochemical after dinner stuff, given to me by my brother in law as he couldnt stomach it, huge bottle of the crap in a big cardboard tube. Its flavour was very strong vodka laced with essence of musty old books, took me two years to get through it, one downside was being able to burp and remove paint.

I think half of it is knowing better, humans learn, for example the dog eats a dead rabbit, scoffs the lot, farts and burbles for six hours then honks it up and then has the ****s for three days, I on the other hand after barely 15 years twigged what was causing the hangovers.

I remember some of the worst hangovers being in my early twenties, the difference is that I could waste the entire day in bed back then, nobody needed taking to the park, Swimming baths, pictures, my dad did all the diy, my mum did all the housework, I just stayed in bed feeling sorry for myself and wanked a lot.

used to be able to drink anything you put infront of me, when i was younger, not quantity, just any sprit and i would drunk it and no hang over, if i did it now wether i mix just one shot i will have the hang over from hell. now i have a theory, just drink larger and when full, onto the sprits, but i must stick to the same spirit for the rest of the night, as long as i dont have too many different brands of larger im fine in the morning. seems to work

I probably drink more now than I did when I was 20-something (I'm now 47 and counting) and don't remember the last time I had a hangover. I may drink more, but don't drink to get "swallied" - it's done over a longer period, interspersed with water and food. I do *not* like being drunk.

You learn your lessons as well.

Don't mix spirits

Don't drink too much on an empty stomach

Stay away from overdoing the Port (absolute killer for hangover)

Put glass of water beside bed BEFORE you go out so you remember to drink it when you get in

Remember which house you live in (happened to mate, not me )

Cheers!

27 now and I don't drink half as much as I used to... don't drink to get smashed any more, just enjoy a couple of Kingfishers with a curry or a glass of wine with dinner

"Friend" stories while on the stellaporter!!

One mate took home his Full curry takeaway, dished it out on a plate and got in bed with it,next to his missus..She turned to see what was goin on..He ended up throwin it down the back of her head and shoulders..Nice..

Same fella..Thought his new 36" Toshiba was the toilet..Nice green picture in the mornin!!

Another guy..collapsed over his front door step..woke up the next mornin with his feet hanging out the door, with the back of his undercrackers full of fun size mars bars...

One of the lads was blitzed while out in Manchester..For no good reason he can remember he left us and boarded a train to York, then had to ring his missus when he got there as he had no money to return..

These are a few that i can tell you about..Many many worse!!!

Stella....She is a harsh mistress!!

stella was tha cause of a mate falling into a hedge on the way home he tried for what seemed like hours(probably about 30seconds) to get himself out but couldn't. i was worse than useless having also spent the evening with the ever sociable stella and in fits of laughter was sent for help, i promptly returned home and went to bed he woke me up about 5 in the morning banging on the door and screaming his head off pulled the duvet over my head and went back to sleep eventually got up about 1ish i think, only to find he had pi$$ed through my letter box

quality night though
