Fancy going for my birthday next year. If so which one did you go to and what was it like. Ive heard of 68 Hospital Rd and Claridges. Isnt there another?
Is it a case of having to book months in advance?
Cheers,
Simon.

Claridges, excellent food, service and the atmosphere is excellent too.
For bookings it's usually weeks, but I've often called up the same day (they get cancellations) and managed to get a table that evening. All depends on the day, what sitting you want and the time of year.

Claridges is one of the highest class hotels in the world, set right in the middle of Mayfair. You could seriously expect be dining next to ambassadors, members of royal families, hollywood superstars (not that they have class), city high-flyers etc. His restaurants are not the sort of places where he acts "hard". It's a very different world from his TV shows.

Gordon Ramsays at 68 Hospital Road is meant to be *the* place to eat. My boss eats there reasonably regularly and reckons its the best restaurant in London. They take reservations a month in advance, and the best bet is to ring up at 9am precisely one month before you intend to eat, and keep trying until you get through. I've tried (unsuccessfuly) to get a reservation a couple of times, but unfortunately my kids mean I can't be flexible as to when I go, and my wife would kill me if I went there with somebody else!!
Maze (which opened recently) may also be worth considering - this is backed by Ramsay and the chef Jason Atherton is a Ramsay protege who ran his operation over in Dubai for several years. I've not eaten there yet, but got reservations very easily for a Friday in December.

Winteringham Fields IS one of the top two restaurants in the whole UK.....I kid you not.
I think the other is "Le Manoir", somewhere in Oxfordshire(??)
The Londoners will find it hard to accept, but food critics agree.
If you haven't eaten there, give it a try, see the civilised North while you're here, then trot off back down south and wonder why you still live there..........queues, traffic jams, loads of speed cams, pollution, overcrowding, high property prices, and above all.....southerners!"

Winteringham Fields is a 16th Century Manor House set in a quiet rural village in North Lincolnshire. It is one of only four UK restaurants meeting the Good Food Guide's criteria of being 'highly individual and displaying impressive artistry'. It is in good company: the others are Gordon Ramsay in London, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, Great Milton and The Fat Duck in Bray.

whilst Winteringham Fields is up there with the best of them sporting 5 AA Rosettes and 2 michelin stars (very very hard to obtain) its not part of the relais chateaux group of hotels and restaurants, once its in that group, then yes its definatly one of the 5 best hotels and restaurants in the uk!

But that doesn't include wine, so the sky is pretty much the limit! £120-200 a head is probably a reasonable estimate without going too daft.

Good to see Winteringham Fields getting a mention!
Only 15 minutes over the Humber Bridge - had lunch there a while ago and it is superb. A friend just ate at Le Manoir and he said it was incredible. If anyone is in Yourkshire, can I heartily recommend the Wellington Inn at Lund - 25 mins North of Hull and has wonderful food.

hospital road is better than Manoir - in fact Novellis was better as well although I just found at this evening he's not at Brockett Hall anymore - pity! My wife does a better chestnut puree than Manoir!

Ramsays at claridges is very very good. Haven't been to his Chelsea one yet but will probably go in the next few months. Fat Duck at Bray mentioned above is also very very good, i thought the food there was better than Ramsays at Claridges although the service wasn't quite as good. Will be interesting to see how Ramsays in Chelsea compares to the Fat duck (although the food will obviously be quite different).

Yeah if Claridges is as good as the reputation then I will definetely try Hospital Rd next.
Anyone know what happened to the winner of the US Hells Kitchen who chose working with Ramsay in the Uk over getting his own restaurant in the US? Michael somebody or other.

Haha what a mess that was. Owner had no idea and no authority. Head chef was useless layabout. No wonder he left as soon as Ramsay did. Prob knew that once the program was aired no one was gonna hire him.
