Default Two minutes silence

does anyone know why the two minutes silence was designated to last for two minutes. Possibly shows up my in-attention (hem in-attendance) at high school. Have asked several people the same question and surprisingly no one can tell me.

because a 2 minute silence that only lasted a minute would not be two minutes

Today is one of the very few I partake in.

Was not trying to make humourous comment, I knew that King George V declared it should take place, I was just curious about why 2 minutes? Was this the first time a 2 minute silence was declared?

Err I'm guessing it's 2 minutes becuase that's what King George decreed. As to why he decided upon 2 minutes, I have no idea.

Me too. Top marks to the UK portal of Google who changed their banner and linked it into a search on the Remembrance Day Appeal

It was decreed by King George V and he also said for two minutes. He said that that he expected all to stop any activity and respect the silence.

Completely agree. The examples you mention, became a competition. To see exactly how much you can show you cared. About 2 girls who were murdered. A man in a foreign country for pure financial greed and a manipulator of the media.

My former employer (some may remember) FORCED the Tsunami 2 minutes over their company intercom. Whilst 2 months or so before that. They had been asked about November 11 and said "We dont want to upset the many Germans that also work here"

Its not like the Germans would of taken offence. And if they did, TBH Tough SIHT!

I stopped work. A few others did. But most carried on ignorantly!
