Default Red Wine

Why after bashing the Red Wine, do you feel so ROUGH the next day? Over did it at my sisters last night and god, i'm in tatters today. I am supposed to be cooking a black rice paella today, but i can hardly move. I will get it done, but it's gonna be a struggle. If i get lashed on beer i'm usually just a bit fuzzy, but lord i'm suffering now.

Does the same to me - whites okay, but red always results in a thumping headache!

I think a combination of red wine, stella and cider has to be the worst!

I can put a decent bottle of French red away, with a meal, and still be OK the next morning..........though probably NOT fit to drive

What SORT of red were you drinking? I'm very suspicious of some...........more chemicals than ICI

I can put a bottle away myself, but it was the amount rather than the wine itself. Only light reds, last night.

No they were from my sunday times four seasons collection. Well it's not really a collection, they don't hang around long enough for that. But they were all french reds apart from one my brother had, a shiraz, erghhh. That was the only heavy one but i only had a glass of that.

Red wine contains lots of tanins which are more difficult for the body to dispose of. Drink loads of water to help your kidneys out.

From what I can remember of O level chemistry red wine, and other dark drinks, contain stuff that attaches to your brain but which isn't soluable. So, for this reason drinking water etc. doesn't help at all and you have to wait for your body chemsitry to break all that stuff down. Can't remember what the stuff is now, ketones perhaps? Oh well, either way that is why i understood dark stuff to make you worse in the morning.

I'd say you should be fit to drive depending on when you stop drinking. A bottle of red wine is about 6 glasses, say 7 -9 units. So if you metabolise one unit per hour you should be fine if you have nine hours before you drive. I always make sure I stop drinking relatively early in the night if I've had a bottle. Depends on your constitution/size/liver as well. I have been breathalised after doing the above and was fine but then I'm 16 stone.

Interesting article;

http://www.sallys-place.com/beverage..._headaches.htm

Gotta love the conclusion too, "...don't confuse red wine headaches with the headache that comes six hours after a full evening of drinking. That's usually called a hangover." LOL!

I just did my National Licence of Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH) exam two days ago and I had to be able to recite units, ABVs, licensing laws etc.

A unit is 8 grams or 10 millitres(ml) of alcohol.

But going back to the subject at hand, a lovely Rijoa doesn't hurt. Faustino Gran Reserve I is a favourie of mine

I'm fine on red wine as long as I don't drink more than a couple of bottles in a sitting.

Do you mean in a restaurant? You can get a perfectly decent and non-toxic bottle of wine for about a tenner in the supermarket

tends to be one of the cheaper reds, but that's not to say it is bad. my sister introduced me to reds. she was a great believer on starting off drinking really good reds (£15+per bottle) to give you an appreciation. then she said you could drink paint stripper all day after that. i quite enjoy the new austrailian wines like the wolfblass stuff.
