I feel for you mate. I lost mine 3 months ago and had next to no help from the muppets down at the dhss. Been checking every day now for jobs and there's nothing in my trade at all. Soul destroying to say the least. Best of luck on the job front mate. (Oh, and with little 'un too)

Shaggy - with a driving licence and sales experience have you ever considered recruitment? Not everyones cup of tea I know, but it may be a useful filler till you can find something you really want to do.

Stiff - what line of work are you in....?

I'm a paint sprayer. (they're usually screaming out for them round here!)
Started out in the car trade but been reburbishing fork lift trucks for 15 years now so it may have changed a bit since then (products etc). Very little work in Hull for these trades at the mo. Lots of lay-offs in all industries.

Are you sure....? The basic salaries are p1ss poor - if you're halfway decent in sales then honestly, recruitment is an easy buck to make. Or try calling Yellow Pages - their basic salaries for telesales are around £25k.

I've known several people in car sales and it's a really hard slog!

Stiff - sorry - don't know any paint sprayers in Hull.... good luck - I know how soul destroying it can be to be out of work.

Tell me about it! Im Motor Trade too. 6 months unemployed so far. If you'd asked me when I left my last place. I would of estimated 2 maybe 3 months max

Registered with 6 Agencies so far. Most of whom apear to be staffed by people who talk the talk, but deliver nothing! Or keep offering me jobs that are 1.5 hours drive away! Which I cant believe is the only vacancies in the SE!

Worst thing is we are now approaching Christmas, and very few places will want to hire until the new year.

Stiff - I promise I'll ask if our VMU is hiring - I guess our nearest one to you would be our Lincoln depot. If they are I promise you'll be the first to know.

Stiff - didn't forget about you. I checked and sadly we've no jobs in Lincoln - aparently it's a really small operation over there. Sorry.

Good luck in your hunting though.

Sorry to hear this. Have been through it myself when my kids were tots but managed to get another job before end of my notice period. Am sure you'll be fine as you sound well motivated!

Good luck!

shaggy - try calling heart of england co-op in nuneaton. not sure if they will have anything to suit you, but when i have worked with them in the past they always seemed to be looking for somone for something (usually store manager/dep manager, depot/distrib people etc, maybe drivers, not sure but you could ask)

rr_ww - i remember your thread. good luck with the search. i would have thought that your previous job was quite specialist, knowing who your employer was. i guess you've already tried the smaller "tuning houses". try calling mac#1 motorsports in sheffield (i know they're not in the south east, but they often refurb engines for kit cars) if they can't help they may know someone in your area with a similar business

Shaggy what is your sales background. The company I work for has a vacancy in the west midlands for a rep. Let me know what your background is and I will see what I can do.
