Did I see a Scorpion??!!!
...probably not, but yesterday whilst out and about with my work collegue, we came across a black insect that i`ve never come across EVER before!!
It had approximately 8 legs on the front half of his 2 inch body, with a hardish black shell. When I poked it with my biro pen, it suddenly flipped its back end up and curled it over to give a scorpion effect.
Now this frightened the life outa me!!! So, being scared, I stamped on it!!!
but when I lifted by size 9 caterpillar boot...............it was standing errect ready for action!!!!!! wtf!!!
Can anyone possibly shed any light on what this "thing" could be? cos the only thing I can think of is some kinda beetle, a scorpion, or a caterpiller still wearing his Halloween costume

Okay, forgot to say that on the tail end were 2 big pinchers, earwig style. In fact, it coulda been a black steroid taking, body building, muscle pumping earwig I spose
Sorry I trod on it It was fear, im only 5`11" and 15.5 stones so it obviously friightened the life outa me

I can't think of a single native arachnid species that would fit the description. If it had a stinger then it could be an escapee scorpion from somewhere, if no stinger then maybe a whip scorpion. Neither are native to the UK though....
The only UK beetles that grow to 2" look nothing like a scorpion and obviously, being insects, do not have eight legs!

The other popular name for this beetle is 'cocktail', because of its habit of raising its tail like a scorpion when it feels threatened. It cannot sting like a scorpion, but it does have another, rather bizarre defense mechanism. At the end of its abdomen are a pair of white glands which can emit a foul smell. It can also squirt a stinking brown fluid from its mouth and anus
And I thought the foul smell was from one of us crapping ourselves

With wanting to frighten you; there are scorpians in England..... I saw a documentary a good while ago that showed scores of the b*stard things all around a deserted station and signal box in, I think, Northamptonshire. Despite looking frightening theyre relatively harmless; I cant remember their species though.
