Had a change of heart and ditched vegas....decided that a relaxing diving & sea fishing holiday were in order so just booked.
Going to the Turtle Bay Beach Club...anyone been ??? All web reviews say it is pretty dam good.
Also, I seem to remember hearing a rumour that you can only take a small aount of cash into the country because of money laundering etc....does anyone know if this is true & if so how much can I take.
Cheers

It's usually the case that they don't mind forex coming into the country for obvious reasons but taking much out may be the problem. Decent travel agent or bank should be up to date on rules and regs.

It's very basic - Afrian countries are crying out for foreign exchange which is why, for example, the tourist industry is an important forex earner. So why they should be iffy about cash coming in is a mystery. May be they just want TCs to keep a lid on the black market and to make sure some of the money goes through the banking system. Still I guess that's their problem, not your's. Have a good trip.

Sorry to put a downer on it but both times i've been to kenya and stayed at turtle bay i've hated it while i was there and only enjoyed the safari part of the holiday. Nice beach but if you get a bad tide then the whole beach is a foot deep in seaweed and really, really nasty and smelly. You'll get pestered to hell by locals on the beach too meaning you can only really stay in the hotel grounds...which are really nice but get a little boring. Malindi is a horrible town but does have a good co-operative market which is worth checking out. Never give money to beggars either. You'll see loads with no legs or arms missing..don't be fooled, they've often had them amputated to fool tourists into giving them more money.

Chop, I was in Mombassa about 10 years ago and the beach was fine. Not the best in the world ie Maldives, Carib etc but nice enough. Are you going to be in Nairobi at all because I can recommend a fab Indian restaurant!

Chop,
I am from Kenya....
I suggest a week in Mombasa - Club Sun & Sand or Malindi..
2 days in Nairobi and 3 days in Maasai Mara...
You can take as much currency as you want- just make sure its not visible to the customs lot - and keep a few £10 notes with you while you clear immigartion
if you need any more info just ask..

have a great time
its a lovely country. i got married there last year.
we did 2 weeks on the beach and a weeks safari. never got around to diving cos of a lack of time !
be ready for some haggling with the all the beach / street vendors.
stuff is cheap there and you can haggle them down to really small amounts comparison to their opening price......
dont try and rush things too much or get frustrated if organsiing stuff does not go aw quicly as you expected - its all 'pole pole' over there....slowly slowly ! if u want a relaxing couple of weeks you should have fun.
not sure on the weather / sea atm we were there in july/aug.
not been to malindi - we stayed with african safrai club at Flamingo Beach Hotel which i think is south of where you are going.
remember its a 3rd world country and the standard of h&s / hygiene etc is not what we're used to over here.
do a safari - you'll not regret it. masai mara is deffo the place to go - we did 3 locations on safari and it was the best for seeing things up close. try a fly drive one as distances are great and the 'roads' poor !
have a great time. we plan to go back in a few years it was so enjoyable.
