I have been looking for a 42" plasma for a while now. Dont want to go to mad as I am thinking of projections at some stage so thinking of one of these (probably the Samsung one)

Gotta agree if youve got the money to go with a panasonic... PW7 would the the one I went for, but that is off course the same as the Viera just without the tuner and glass frame etc....

Doesnt mention anywhere what the resolution is but it clearly states HD Compatiable???? wierd. Dunno to be honest, only had a quick gander.
Its not true HD as it can only display 852x480
I think the true formats used in HD (but I may be wrong) are:
720p - 1280 x 720 progressive
1080i - 1920 x 1080 interlaced
1080p - 1920 x 1080 progressive
Problem with a lot of retailers at the moment badging sets as HD ready when they're clearly not capable of displaying true HD images

I went for the budget option, as I will change to an HD one when they become a bit more common (and cheaper). Mine is a 42" Bush Plasma, which cost me £799 + Vat, and to be honest, it's leaps and bounds above the rear projection and LCD RP screens I saw. I will take a photo of it tonight, because I'm chuffed to bits with the quality of it, especially for what it cost (Makro)

But look around and you'll find a good deal, if you've got a Richersounds near you try them.
After pricing the TVs, I went with a projector and 120" remote control screen. It really frees up space in the living room and the screen is so much better that LCD or plasma. It is digital and HID compliant as well. I don't watch TV so the Govt can kiss my **** when it comes to paying the outrageous TV tax as well. Sorry queenie, you'll have to go steal from another!
I have decided that HD ready isnt that important to me right now !
So have decided to go for this :-

Am I making a huge mistake ?

Not 100% sure on the set itsef but Samsung isnt all that bad.
To be honest HD doesnt interest me either yet.... How long was digital out with Sky before the price became realistic and many people used it, and its not even released yet... I wouldnt worry about it.... and when HDTV is important to you stick that plasma in the spare bedroom (covert to lads room
) and buy a new Plasma
lol (thats my plan anyhow)

ohhh and yes, easily the best
I agree there is so much hearsay about HD that I think I will steer clear for now !
spoken to a couple of people & they seem to think the picture quality of the plasma is good ! They also agree that the deal that Ebuyer are doing is a good one !!!!
Think I will be purchasing today

i got a pioneer 43" HD ready plasma, as u no paul. £2500 but is now £1995 @ richer sounds.
already signed up for HD sky
cant really comment on the samsung but when we were looking I only had in mind the good quality makes such as pioneer, panasonic, sony.
obvioulsy the cheaper models are always gonna be inferioir to the higher spec'd, higher quality components.
u get what u pay for really

rb5... Sony? quality makes in Plasmas? dont make me laugh
and yes Sky are behind, how long have I been listening to Sky are launching it soon... do you even know what theyre launching? not a full package thats for sure, a few channels for the first year.... gonna be a while yet before its rolled it properly and is cost efficient.... I mean theyre bl00dy set top box will be Thomson... I wouldnt trust them to build a remote control let alone a HD Set top box

I have a Panasonic TH42 PV500CAB and am very pleased with it. It's HD ready but, due to it's popularity it's very difficult to get one at the moment as many dealers are out of stock. I've had mine four months. Geoff.
