funny phone calls
Some **** keeps ringing my mobile at all hours from a withheld number, then hangs up. What can I do if this persists?
Will my phone company be able to block the number, or tell me who it is?
anyone had this?

Just answer next time and say youve contacted the police and theyre looking into it, probably find it might scare then off enough to leave you be...
Otherwise turn you mobile off or change your number?

ok,
you need to do this very quick.
get a whistle, when a withheld caller calls (tell all your mates NOT to withheld their numbers)
pick up the phone straight away and whistle as loud as you can.
that will keep them hearing bells for a good few days.
or 2, ignore all withheld numbers completely,
just press ignore.
they'll soon get bored

you can report to police, then they can set up a monitoring system on your line, as the call comes in and you pick up, if its the "mystery caller" you quickly press 1. This signals the tracing monitor that keeps the line open even if the other person hangs up.
Had this a while ago. Just go through to the police first then contact the nusiance caller dept at your telco (all telcos have one by law)

Do not respond in any way to the calls.
You can call BT customer services, they have procedures for this. For instance, they can have an operator to answer all your calls & only put them through to you if the caller can give them your name. They also trace calls for the police. Call 0800 661 441 (open 24/7) where a BT Nuisance call advisor will tailor a solution to your specific problem.
If you are not with BT, you will need to call your provider.
Registering with TPS is a given.

I have this problem too every now and again...unfortunately some important call are witheld e.g. solicitors, so I can't ignore them.
I also had a mobile (fully shown number) phone for one ring, then hang up....I called back, and it was liek an automated system which said 'transferring you to the department you rquire' or something. I hung up straight away as I thought it might be at £500/min or something stupid.

Someone was doing this to my missus, but instead of hanging up, they were just sitting there in silence and you could hear the TV in the background. One day they forgot to withold their number, and so I set the fax machine in my office to auto-redial and whenever I got bored I set the fax on them, could hear them shouting through the fax machine's speaker, revenge was sweet
Then I phoned them, and told them what I was going to do to them unless they stopped it hehee
