House prices to blame for Binge Drinking
Almost laughable really.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4306226.stm
And since when did Binge drinking become classed as more then eight units (four pints) in one session for men and more than six units (six small glasses of wine) for women. That means most of men have been Binge drinking for decades.... even when house prices were low my dad spent half of his life int he bl00dy pub

Binge drinking isn't New - NL trying to ban everyone from doing it rather than the ****** that can't handle their drink / use it as an excuse for violent assault is !

4 pints of low (3-4%) beer. Stella is classed as 3 units, so thats less then 3 pints to be classed as binge drinking.
Basically they are saying, if you can actually FEEL the effects of the alcohol, only slightly then your binge drinking.

Never understood why the figures for "binge" drinking were so high. Now I do !
Would have thought they should be nearer 8+ Pints of weak to qualify.
By those figures I binge drink several nights a week at home when i crack open a bottle of wine.

Know your alcohol units
ONE unit of alcohol is equal to:
a 1/2 pint of ordinary (3.5 per cent) strength beer or lager
a 25 ml pub measure of spirits (40 per cent)
a small (125 ml) glass of 9 per cent wine
a 50 ml pub measure of sherry, port or vermouth
SOME POPULAR DRINKS
A large (175 ml) glass of 12 per cent red wine - 2 UNITS
A bottle of 11 / 12 per cent wine - BETWEEN 8 AND 9 UNITS
A 330 ml bottle of 4 / 5 per cent lager or cider - 1.5 UNITS
A pint of 5 per cent export lager - 3 UNITS <---------- STELLA
A bottle of alcopops / ready mixed drinks - 1.5 UNITS
A can of strong (9 per cent) lager - 4 UNITS

I have to add some balance here. I drink once or twice a week, but 6 units (i.e. a full bottle of wine) is a binge in my book because it's enough to impair my concentration the next morning at work. Those claiming that 4 pints doesn't affect them are either deluding themselves or drinking enough to have developed tolerance. Try abstaining for 6 weeks then starting again and you'll see what I mean.

The problem in the UK is the majority of drinkers are only concerned with one of two things - how much they can drink and how quickly they can get it down their necks. Never been able to work that one out myself.
Its got **** all to do with House Prices, its cultural.

What I dont understand is why they keep quoting how much drinking costs the NHS each year, how much does it MAKE each year in taxes?
Would be interesting to see the comparisons.

Whether or not some on here feel they have to boast about their alleged capacity to hold their drink purely to impress us all with their manliness, 8 units is a lot of alcohol to drink in one session. It may not feel like it to a booze artist but the damage is being done and will show in later life.
I like a drink as much as anyone, especially my home brew, but I don't think it is worth the risk of getting cirrhosis or liver cancer when I am older.

Have always been jealous of people who can get hammered on 3 pints - they get a much cheaper night out, dont spend all night going back and for to the bar / toilet etc...
For all the 'real men' boasting about how they sink 10 pints a night - so what ? you've spent the best part of £25 on something that has just gone straight through you and out the other end. If getting hammered is all you care about, drink meths - much cheaper and quicker.
