Default Tribute Band Ideas.....

Hi you lot, I've been playing drums for a Bryan Adams Tribute band now for nearly 8 years, but, it looks like the band could be on the brink of disbanding, so........I'm looking for some ideas for a new tribute project.

Please don't slag tribute bands off as unoriginal etc etc......I've done plenty of original stuff but have now got used to playing to decent sized crowds at decent music venues around the country and would like to continue this, for now anyway.

Problem is, which tribute band to start as there are already loads of Queen, Bon Jovi, U2, Led Zep etc etc.......

It must be of a rock genre but pretty mainstream too, although I'd prefer to play Heavy Rock persoanally.

Any ideas, who would you go to see........?

I was thinking of Guns 'n' Roses but there are already 2 or 3 playing the circuits.

Thanx 4 your time.

Si.

Nirvana has been done by 2 or 3 bands already and it was done well too....!

I was just about to say this!!! Im a massive fan, if you want i can recommend alot of their songs (i have pretty much everything)

As you say, its wrong to knock tribute bands. Being able to play an instrument in itself and read music is impressive in my book!

Do you think people would watch a "FAITH NO MORE" tribute?

Would be very cool. I don't think there is one in the UK (not one big enough for me to have heard of anyway). Problem would be attracting a sizeable audience - they've never been particularly commercial (which is just fine). Having said that, I'd go see them play.

I've seen them live - bloody amazing!! Sang so much I couldn't talk properly for days.

They've always flown slightly below the radar and intentionally so. IIRC they used to release singles without barcodes to avoid chart entry.

Always thought Even Flow is a great name for a boat.

I play guitar and drums and the thread starters a drummer so we just need a Jeff Ament and a keyboard player (what's the latest called?). Been in so many bands, to start with you turn up to rehearsals and it's all very professional and then we get to know each other and someone says "mind if I skin up" and then "I'll get some beers" and then **** all happens for weeks on end. Damn good giggle though.

I certainly would - but I don't think many people would remember them. I doubt many people could name more than a couple of their tunes, but I may be wrong...

I'm sticking with bass-player and lead guitarist and going to recall our last guitarist, both of whom are marvellous players, just need to get a bloody good vocalist, then I can start .............a JUDAS PRIEST tribute.......!

Often thought of doing an Aerosmith tribute, or, a tribute to punk, or a tribute to stadium rock, or.......

....can't decide, all personnel in place and raring to go, just need a bloody vocalist.

Si.

keep 'em coming you lot.....TA.

PMSL The funky looking Hawaiian keyboard player is Boom Gaspar.

Skoosh - I suppose it's easier if the decision is made before you find a vocalist but couldn't you look/listen around for one first? His/her voice might decide it all for you.

Have you considered female vocals?

7 foot, yes I've thought about a female lead singer but there's only one thing I've got against that.........it generally becomes a female lead singer with a band behind her.

What about Aerosmith?
or Duran Duran
or INXS
or Billy Idol
or simple minds
or Van Halen.....

oh I don't know, all above actually have one or more already.

SEX PISTOLS..........

Si.

psart of the problem with poaching a lead-singer is convincing him/her that they'll be better off with us......even though in tribute circles we have a good rep, it's hard to convince someone to join without a fairly full diary.

I accept that we'll probably have to start off at the bottom again which probably means playing support slots and odd weekday nights......bugger.

I can think of nothing better than that kiwi.......problem is if you don't wear all the leather and lace with big hair everyday you tend to like like a fuvkwit.

Seen plenty of bands do it and most just look totally uncomfortable and concentrate more on the look than the music.

Fantastic idea......still play all that in my scoob now....you cant beat a bit of 80's glam metal.

Pretty sure the crue are gigging again now.

Si.

TWISTED SISTER......still my all time fav.....but can't imagine many people with a voice like Dee Snider though.

Vin, good luck mate, can't beat beingin the right band mate.

Just booked my tickets for Wembley's first ever gig - BON JOVI.

Gold standing area right at the front 11.06.06.

Can't wait to see the new stadium and see a fairly decent band that's sold a few LP's.....

Si.

ps:I wonder if Slayer will play there some time?

Do an 80's glam band tribute, but rather than just copy one band, do songs by loads of different ones - went to see the 'whole lotta metal' shown last year, and they do basically the same with classic rock, plus a few newer bands thrown in and it was suprisingly good.

I would love to see a tribute band to The Jam, was listening to their greatest hits in the car this morning and asked mysefl why Paul Weller doesn't reform for a final tour!!

I think The Jam tribute band would go down quite well

"Big Country" would be a lot of fun, how about "Helloween", "WASP" , "Metal Church" is another more obscure one.
