Default Is online dating sad?

A mate is turning to online dating to find himself a life long partner but it all seems a bit sad to me.

I voted Yes but I suppose the dating scene is just moving with the times and adapting to changing technologies.

Where as before your mate would have had to go and join a dating agency, most probably wouldn't due to the embarassment factor, he can now do it all on-line.

Good luck to him I say

I think its a very sad way for him to meet a wife.

Your mate should step away from his PC and get out the house more.
I take it your mate is an ugly **** for him to us this method to meet women

If they are happy and not getting taken for a ride, why should you worry? Do they vet all your girlfriends, social locations and such like for you?

I'm glad I'm passed all the dating nonsense.

Looking around I hate to have to try and find a partner with all the young fat mouthy laddettes the seem to be everywhere .

Online's fine provided it works .

I was going through a bad patch a while ago and tried it. Met a girl who was just plain bloody weird and we dated once. She seemed so nice and normal by instant message, email and text. her pic was 10 years out of date, she'd eaten a freezer full of haagen daaz every day since that pic had been taken and had developed pshycotic tendancies ...
One of those moments when you have to slap yourself around the face with a wet fish, and remind yourself you're not one lifes losers and get back out more...
So in conclusion I believe it to be sad and think this person needs a reality check and encouragement from his chums...
FFS at least try speed dating first!

No its cool, I did it for a while back in 2000 and got laid plenty more than I would have through the traditional (normal?) means, its just a new way of meeting people using the available technology thats all.

think its fine for casual 'fun' but to use it to find a long term partner does seem a bit 'sad'.

Wouldnt call it sad, just another way of meeting people. Some people dont have many friends and ways of going out meeting people. If it works for them why not.

To look for a life long partner might be a tadge optimistic and desperate, but for just meeting and getting to know people whats the problem?

I'm on the fence.

If your trapped in a routine or stuck in tight social circles, eDating does actaully provide a means to "get out more" and meet different people.

On the otherhand the world is full of very odd people, and people who pretend to be what they clearly are not, and without meeting face to face you could end up with some right nutters.

You could argue that as soon as you log onto a BBS and start posting, you could be defined as "sad"

Ah, I see, a ruse, to elicit a vitrolic response no doubt. How very cunning.

I've no problems in saying I've used online dating, and I don't need to hide behind some alias or use a proxy IP to say it either. Some might consider that sad, or even childish, but I digress.

To actually answer the question of whether I think it's sad, no, I don't (well that wasn't at all obvious was it! ). There are many, many more "sad" things in this big, wide world.

A very good point! I think you'd find a vast majority of people would consider us lost posting on here about all and sundry to be far from normal and "sad"

Fact - 1 in 10 people in the UK have a STD.
50% of males and upto 70% of females are unaware unless tested after each relationship ends.

And of those 10%, how many are within the online-dating catchment age? Not many. So your point being?

Right...so when you meet somebody in bar or club, you can see the STD through their clothes then?

On-line dating is / has become socially acceptable.

It's just another avenue with which to meet people you are unlikely to meet in your usual social circles.

Tell him to try speed-dating!

Sad?

fecking dangerous I'd say

In a sense I'm grateful that I have only ever met a handful of people from this BBS - to actively go looking to meet psycho's on the web is another matter altogether

The stats would only really apply if we are talking about using online dating for the sole reason of sex, however, I believe that is not what is/was being discussed.
