Anyone of that age in a reasonable job and have been for a period of time will no doubt be earning more than the minimum wage anyhow.

Try & negotiate the contract & terms, tell her that due to the economic downturn, you have to reduce her rates, unless she is willing to supply some

so at 5.05 /hr and 40 hour week and 48 weeks /year thats £9696pa - less £805.42 tax and £586.08 NI leaves you with £8304.50pa or effectively reducing your rate to £4.325 - the government giveth and the government taketh away....... Thats the real cost of this government - the tax burden even for people on minimum wage that they claim they are helping..... you earn 9.5K minimum wage and the government still takes nearly £1400 off you.
