LJK Setright - RIP
I see from the obituary column that we lost a fine motoring journalist a few days ago.
Didn't see any notice of this on SN so I thought I'd put it up for the cogniscenti.

He was the "ordinary car" equivalent of Jenks (who was "racing cars"). RIP. Bit of an oddball, but certainly knew his stuff. I still don't know what bmep is (I know it stands for brake mean effective pressure, and it's a measure of engine power, but that's it).

He never made it to 'Men & Motors' channel though, did he...
I used to read him in Car but I found his writing tended to veer too much towards esoteric engineering principles and eulogising Soichiro Honda. Not what I thought the readership really wanted.
Now if he'd done an article on Carbonfibre splitters...

I met him at a bike show years ago (the late 70's). He was riding a Honda CB1000 (the big heavy six cylinder thing), I was on a little Honda 250. He comically introduced himself as "NGK SPARKRIGHT". What he didn't know about all things automotive wasn't worth knowing about. Probably the most knowledgable people I've ever met.

I couldn't get on with his style of writing. Probably because I don't understand words with two syllables or more
In anycase, it appears that most of the motoring journo's had a lot of time for him.

Marvellous writer - truly an original and one of the great engineering journalists of the 20th century. Used to love his Frontline column in Car 20 years ago....
Car mag is a sadder place without LJKS and Russell Bulgin.....
