Cool The Great North Run

After being kitted out with a young-offenders ankle tag that was supposed to record my time I took my place on the start line. It's not every day that you can run sober the wrong way up the middle land of a motorway the wrong way and live to tell the tale!

As I passed over the tyne bridge the red arrows came over us at about 200ft with the point of their formation in line with the road!!

The day was clouded slightly as I passed the 10 mile marker as I saw some poor guy being given CPR. From the news report on the way home he had collapsed with a heart attack and sadly passed away.

I completed the 13.2 mile course in about 2 hours 10 minutes (my estimate), a mere 1 hour 15 minutes behind the winner Seeing as I was aiming for 2 hours 30 minutes I am very happy, I am also looking forwards to being able to walk again sometime this week!

I will definitely think twice before doing anything so stupid again!

LOL - well done SJ. Sounds like a fairly respectable time as well.

Furthest I've ever run was about 5 miles, being the unfit lazy git that I am...

4 people died with heart attacks though....far too many people are doing the race who aren't at all fit and are carrying far too much weight!!!

Well done to all those involved, I couldn't even run for a bus

Was at work yesterday and when the Red Arrows went over we looked out the window and watched them banking away across Gateshead.
Great sight

Well hopefully it won't take as long to get home as it did last night.
Some moron had been pulled over by the police on the A1 just after the Angel of the North and closed off one lane. It took us less than 5 mins to get to the Metro Centre from Gosforth (the base ) and then another hour to clear past that idiot in the white van

PS, its miles from the Metro at South Shields to the finish line - us mere unfit ones weren't banking on having to run ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers guys

I am recuperating with the aid of Becks (pain killer/lubrication) and Kettle chips (lost salts)

Stefan - what's the best plan for getting back into training after something like this?
