Thumbs down ebay - private bids

What is the reason behind being able to hide your details on a bid. Looks to me like a licence for sellers to force an auction. Its clear if an ID has no history but is bidding on an item aggressively that its potentially the seller, with obvious risk to him/her. The ability to see who is bidding for what surely takes some of that risk away.

I'm not sure why they have this system on eBay. The whole think only works because its "transparent". In real life auctions, I can understand why some bidders would want to remain annonymous, like when they buy something incredibly rare of valuable.

I'd stay clear of those eBay auctions myself...

In theory its to protect bidders from being contacted by other members.
Never bothered me tbh.
