Unhappy Am i letting the bed bugs bite...!?!?

right, bit of a wierd one really...

been getting moskito like bite marks on my body, though a bit smaller than what a mozzie bite would be, been annoying me for ages now, gone from thinking it was an allergy to my washing powder, to my Dr reckoning i've got scabbies!! (looks simular) but it aint!! (had 3 treatments!, bit minging i know!)

now i've started noticing these bugs in my room, esp on my bed and i'm wondering if it might be them. they are quite ugly looking things, prob about 5millimetres long or less and a red/brown colour with a round body.

any idea what they are and if they could be causing the 'bite' marks..?

and how to kill the little *******!!!

cheers

Fleas? Can be real *******s. Bite smaller than a mozzie, no dot in the middle, itch like hell for 3-4 days. My wife and son got savaged by them in the last apartment. Go to Boots and get the anti-histamine pills in the orange packs, they work wonders, at least for us.

We didn't have any pets in the last apartment, neither did previous owner. Neither did colleagues who reported the same problem in their apartments.

To kill a flea you have to squeeze it, using both your thumbnails as they have a hard 'shell'- it's impossible to just squash them like an ordinary bug.

Yes, I'm afraid you have bed bugs! They have been feeding on you, then falling off once they are bloated with blood and crawling away to digest!

Look under your matress, in creases, seams and around furniture. You will probably notice signs of their faeces.

Insecticide is the only way forward....

I think you really should be getting a professional in to deal with it. Spraying random insecticides on your bed could be much worse for you than losing a few ml of blood through bites!

Most insecticides are neurotoxins and can be absorbed through the skin, hence there are pretty strict rules about what poisons can be used in the home, particularly in eating/sleeping areas!

Personally I would write off the matress, and possibly the base if it is a divan style bed. Bin the lot, then get the pest controller in! The little gits can lie dormant for weeks, even months so unless you are thorough the problem will keep recurring.

Go to the vet and get a can of "Stay Kill". That will kill anything and also give you lasting protection for up to a year.

If you absolutely MUST do something immediately, try getting hold of some dust mite treatment. It is approved for use in and around bedrooms and should work on bed bugs too without killing you!

Pop the mattress in the freezer. The bugs die and simply fall off.

Jap, slight flaw in that idea is that its a double matress so fitting it into a freezer could be a bit tricky!

that and the fact they'll still be lurking around the skirting etc..

I was being less than serious. I apologise.

However, a CO2 fire extinguisher could be used to great effect around the skirting. Freeze and vacuum!

Make sure you spray the eggs too, or a second generation will emerge and continue the cycle. They are quite easy to find, the faeces are black specks around their hideouts and the eggs are in clusters and white in colour. When you squish the bug, it stinks and if you are not quite asleep when it attacks, you can smell them coming.
