can be cashed in no problem, 100% safe ie if national savings goes bust then we've got bigger problems than our premium bonds, and with average luck you should get around the same return on your money that you would in a bank , but it's tax free and you've got the chance you might win one of the bigger prizes. If you go for them read the leaflet and it should tell you what time of month to invest , or you might have to wait a while until you are eligable for the next draw

Got some, only any good if you are a higher rate tax payer (40%) as the winnings are free from tax which brings the effective rate up

You are not guaranteed any win though

Use your mini cash ISA allowance first

Can get your money back anytime you want - you are lending money to Brown / Blair

I have £1000. Only just got them though, so will have to wait a month before they qualify for the draw. About 2 weeks to go i think!

The draw has just been done and published on the net, so you'll have to wait a whole month

Do they still inform you if you've won or is it up to the individual to check the draw results - especially for the lower prizes like with the lottery?

They send the cheque(s) to your registered address each month - arriving about the 17th or so
