Default eBay non-delivery question

I sold an item to a chap in Israel about one month ago. He contacted me yesterday to let me know that it had not arrived.

Thing is, I did not send it recorded delivery, so I have no tracking number. I have checked that I sent it to the correct address, but he still says that it has not turned up.

Now I know I sent it, the item in question was only worth 99p, but the postage was about £7.

What do people think a fair an amicable solution to this issue would be?

How much money? Both the postage and the item?

Easiest way is to turn the question around - if you bought something and it didn't arrive how much would you expect to be charged for the honour???

ps - If the answer is anything more than £0 then PM me a list of things you want.... Can't promise on behalf of the Royal Mail though

Lumi- He's more than likely lying but if you never insisted on a signature of proof on delivery then you have to refund. Chances are if you don't he will only do a PayPal chargeback anyway. (if that was his payment method).

Whatever he paid you, needs to be sent back to him, and you take your beef up with the delivery company, for what it's worth.

It might save your feedback too if that's a concern to you.

It can't be emphasised enough, if you are sending anything you need to get proof, end of.

Too many people know this scam and wait for deliveries hoping no signature is required, then claim non delivery of goods whilst pocketing not only the item but a full refund too.

Fair enough.... looks like I will refund him.

If he did a chargeback I think he would only be able to get the 99p, as I don't think you are liable to refund postage....anyway....its not worth getting to stressed over.

If the conensus is a refund then thats what it will be.....

PayPal will investigate his claim and attempt to collect all funds deemed recoverable. Members are entitled to all funds PayPal collects on their behalf. However, fund recovery is not guaranteed.

They will also hit you for the £7 chargeback fee.

Don't get mad, get even!

eBay is superb used properly in the better categories, occassionally it can appear very unjust but as long as you follow their rules you can be OK.

More fees = more sales.

Yeah, tis true....more fees = more sales...

Just like tax, the more you pay, the more you have earned. Still don't like paying it though

Did you offer postal insurance as an option? If so, and he didn't take it up, then it's his problem IMHO.

Agree, but the taxman isn't a scammer either. It's legalised daylight robbery, there's a difference.

It's the sellers responsibility to ensure anything reaches the buyer.
