What Do You Call Yourself ?
Just reading something in today's paper and it made me think.
When I'm asked for my nationality, I always reply "English".
I was born in England, live in England and shall probably die here too.
The Scots, Welsh and Irish are all called by their country's origin, so why are we obliged to call ourselves British and say we are from the UK?
It's a bee in my bonnet and it won't stop buzzing !

I was born in Scotland, have an English mother, a Half irish & Half scottish father, that was also born in Scotland
This in turn makes it brilliant due to the fact i hate the English footie team & i can call them English b*stards
I am what i am & i belong to nowhere
Sorry if this doesnt answer your original question

Look at many forms/address sections on the internet and on paper that need that question answering.... the only possible answer for us is British or United Kingdom. We are NEVER (well hardly ever) given the opportunity to answer English !

Apart from a Muppet...British/English with Kuwaiti roots.
My Mother is English, my Father is Kuwaiti, he moved here when he was 19 to start a business, became a british national, met and married my mother and started a family!

Anyway, back to the original point. Wherever I go I am Scottish. It does my nut in when forgieners say 'English, no?'
When filling out application forms, if there is a gap to write Scottish, I will. Otherwise, I will make do and tick the British box. I think this stems from being confused about how many t's were in 'British' when I was younger

Why are you obliged to call yourself British any more than a Scot or Welshman?

Anyway, personally I don't even give it a thought, English, British who cares as long as it's not Scottish, Irish or Welsh.

I often get asked if I'm Australian, Kiwi or South African.
For the record, born in Canada to English parents, raised in England (from the age of 2). I call myself English even though I'm an English/Canadian dual national. If possible, I put English on any forms etc rather than British. I never ever refer to myself as a European - yeuch!
North Americans (especially Yanks) are often confused by the UK/Britain. Many assume Scotland and Wales are part of England and that Britain is the same as England. NI confuses them even more. Even some Brits don't realise the UK is short for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It annoys me to! I fly to the States quite a bit and the Visa waiver form at Immigration, and the badge behind the desk, means you have to fill in Nationality as British and county of residence as United Kingdom, I see myself as English so it galls me to write anything else on the form.
Got to play by their rules though otherwise some time in a nice room with the rubber gloved customs man may be on the cards!!!!

I have a Scottish father and a Trinidadian Mother.
I was born in Scotland and lived here most of my life, except for about 3 years in different parts of England.
I call myself Scottish or British - depends on my mood and what the context is.
If you're English, I don't see any harm in saying you're English if you want to.

BRITISH.
Born in Singapore - Mum Engerlish, Dad Northern Ireland (Proddy) currently living in Jock-land.
I usually call myself BRITISH cos it annoys the JOCKS
(Especially if I add the Bit about really being English and born to rule them)
