Default "Top Shelf" magazines

Hello

Whilst in a newsagent local to work this morning I noticed the wide variety of top shelf magazines (in fact, they only magazines they appear to sell!). How do these guys stay in business?

I haven't actually seen one since I was about 13, but they can't offer anything special? The competition from the Internet must be huge and the Internet can certainly deal with the more specialist interest and is not restricted by censorship (generally).

funny story about a mate, who used to run the "**** club" at fords, years ago, where everyone in the club stuck a quid in per week, and he bought a selection of said publications for their perusal.

picture this guy, about 50ish at the time, and looked a bit like Roy Kinnear.

anyway, one fine morning, on the way to work, he stopped off to buy the necessary and was having a subtle flick across the top shelf covers, when 2 schoolgirls walk in.

anyway, in a bit of a panic, he tried to remove his arm from the higher echelons, only he caught one mag with his sausage finger, and created a domino rally effect, resulting in about 5 mags landing around his feet, hooter side up, in full view of these girls....

suffice to say, he went a slight crimson colour, and left.

i'm still laughing about this now, and it must have been at least 15 years ago.

harmless fun.

I used to go and buy Razzle for my other half years ago, cos he was too embarrassed to. Occasionally winked at the young girl who served me for a laugh, think I scared her to death

Cos he didn't want to stash them in his bedroom cos his Mum would of probably found them, we used to keep them in the boot of my car......which was fine until the day I forgot to remove them when it went in for an MOT. I was a tad embarrassed when I picked it up!!!

Most of the women in that mag looked like they'd been in a road traffic accident (allegedly)

My bro is a bit of a **** fiend, years ago NTL came round to fit cable telly, my mum was stood in the doorway of his bedroom when the enginners lifted his chest of drawers out of the way...underneath was about 2 hundredweight of top quality scando **** mags...the smaller ones, that usually have a lady with a wanger in each hand on the front cover, Pirate/Privte etc....

Needless to say, the old cheese nearly had a heart attack..

I think a lot of the people purchasing such stuff dont want or need a pc so, a couple a quid a month is less hassle than pc, setting it up, broadband etc etc.

Also there are still quite a few specialist mags round, like skintwo etc etc, but alas not mainstream ****, and expensive at £10 a throw.

I have a friend who is pretty crude to say the least. On the way to golf one day we were in the local shell garage, I was at the till about to pay when a girl from work wandered in. She also happens to be a jehovers window cleaner or some such thing....''hello Gary how are you?'' .... ''very well thanks and you?'' ....Next minute I hear a shout and my slightly un-couth mate say ''ear **** ave a look at these''.....me and the girl turn round he has a top shelf mag in his hand open at the center spread, ''look at the xxxx on that'' ............. it was about that moment I started considering a new job.

I used to sell them to kids at school

Had a ring binder or 2 full of the current and last months...would sell them for £1 mark up on cover price.... made, what was for a 13 or14 year old, a packet.

It helped that we knew of a newsagent that didnt care how old you were, and liked the fact I bought in bulk to sell on as it made his takings good

Also I once found a bloke at a car boot sale selling 2 or 3 hundred of them in bundles of 5 or 10- myself and a friend bought the whole lot and sold every single one within a month... made a very very nice profit on that lot

Making a profit from horny schoolkids- fantastic. Doubt the demand is there now, since most people have access to broadband flaps on tap. Was great at the time.

It did help that I went to an all boys school- so had no shortage of customers And I never got caught- either by my parents or the school.

I was on a school trip once and we were in some woods and found a black bin bag full of them! We were there hours looking at them, we got caught of course but fortunatly it was my form tutor who was a cool guy. He just had a quick look and wandered off, needless to say we learnt nothing on the trip

I daresay most of the users on here looked at the magazines before they were 14. I know I'd just joined high school. So why does the law still prohibit selling mags to kids that are going through puberty?

Who was it that used to deposit jazz mags everywhere, used to always find them, now when I go for a bike ride, not a sausage !

Must be goverment cutbacks at the department of **** and perversions, perhaps they have merged with the department that throws shoes onto motorways ?

I've noticed single lost shoes making a comeback, mainly on A roads now and not motorways though

years ago when whsmiths stock 'em my english teacher was caught reading them by, the class clown (idiot)

he and a group was chanting " W...H......SMITH.....DIRTY PORNOS.." for a whole week, nevertheless, the teacher gave him a lecture

a group (maybe 10 +) did work exp. at a publishing company called northern and shell
and guess what they published as well.

ffs i worked at the accounts dept. all i did was delete old pervs accounts who hasn't ordered those subs for over 2 yrs.

however a large group of girls complained (strange no boys) to the school
because at their dept they has to insert flyers in the mags.

an idiot of a friend wanted to nick one and asked me to keep a lookout,

i told him bollox.. of all the things to get caught ..THAT is not what i want
