BAN ALL HOODS IN PUBLIC
Not sure how to do a poll, could someone kindly do this one for me.
I strongly believe all hoods should be banned in public, including transport.

Whilst I agree that hoods make it easy for a rogue to disguise their identity (not to mention intimidate), there are many other methods available, such as hats (particularly baseball caps) and sunglasses etc. Do we ban these in public places as well?
In fact, the very act of banning them will make them infinitely more popular than they are now.

I heard somewhere there is a group of old grannies who have started wearing hoodies in their town in an attempt to make the garment "un-cool" so the kids will stop wearing them!

As for banning them, no i would not. I would come down hard on the people who wear them and commit crime - the same as i would for people who do not wear them.
The hoodie is not the problem, out of control teenagers and soft PC judges, laywers, do-gooders and laws are the problem!

I don't think you could ban them, hooded swatshirts with the big pocket on the front were part of my old Venture scout uniform, and were becoming more popular in scouting / sporting clubs as they are practical. warm and pretty tough wearing so to ban them would be a kick in the teath for all the folks who wear them sensibly. I am 35 and I still wear my old venture scout one with my unit logo on it and nickname when I go climbing or do anything outdoors. What needs doing is proactively detering the thugs/hoodlums from wearing them with the hoods up in public places, when there is no need for the hood to be up.

In fact lets do one step further than banning hoodies...lets introduce a UK good citizens unifrom which will make us all look like good old respectable middle england daily mail reading folk.....

I sugGest banning all gloves
Criminals wear gloves (often) when committing crimes so ban 'em!
Same goes for balaclava's, stockings and sunglasses and the sale of all make up and hair colourings should also be banned. That way scum will not be able to change their appearance.

To be called an idiot for suggesting a ban is a harsh thing, lots of shops in my area including shopping centers have banned them and have noticed a huge drop in thugs hanging around, as well as drops in shop lifting.
Maybe the origional post was to general but they are a bad thing and DO serve to conceal identity.
Why are they needed ON buses why are they needed IN shops, BANKs have banned hoods and helmets for years...
I should have thought harder about posting an opinion in NSR knowing it would just simply be an oportunity for certain people to insult me.

No, but yes but, no but yes but imho banning them from one place just moves it to another, this has happened where i live - lads (12-20 or so of 'em) banned from one area by an ASBO's, just moved to another (my) area (travel buy bus) and cause trouble.
The hoodies are not the problem it is the attitude of the troublemaker sh*ts in them. They klnow how to flaunt the law and get away with it. Most now likely 2nd/3rd generation chavvies and scum
No offence to all law abiding hoodie wearers!
IMHO - Deal with the problem not just a symptom or their clothing.

"don't judge a book by its cover" is the phrase springing to mind. What happens if the hoodies are banned and they don some KISS style facial graphics that equally will help them to avoid recognition. This world is out of control keep it simple stop banning things and just enforce the law the good old fashion way, ( I don't know what that is but my Gran tells me it was very effective )

When I were a bairn, If you stepped out of line the local bobby / shopkeeper / teacher etc would give you a clip round the ear (or grip and twist hair around the temple area) We just took the punishment stopped what we were doing and scooted off.
If you did that nowadays to a kid you'd get banged up facing court.
Bunch of ****
