Just moved into a new house & i am looking at getting a dog
G/f's dad breeds boxers but tbh i dont want my house getting ruined with it.
So fancy a Lab
Preferably a chocolate one
So has anyone got any pointers what to look out for when i go looking ???

Labs are lovely and affectionate with a good deep WUFF for a bark which doesn't get on your t!ts too much. They're not the smartest dog in the world, nor are they the dumbest but they are generally good natured canines.
Wouldn't like to give any advice on what to look for really except to say when you get one don't let it get overweight. They suffer with their hips and pelvis IF OVERWEIGHT but they're fine otherwise.
Happy hunting.

See the thing is my Dad got one from police kennels a few years ago & it was a year old, it was nuts but a great dog, he had to get rid though due to the fact that it couldnt settle in the house so he sent it to my uncles farm in ireland & its still there having the time of its life

Labs..
We have two Labs...one aged 10 and one aged 4 yrs.
Dillon & Harvey.....they followed the last two...Benson & Monty...we have had Labs since we got together 22 yrs ago.
All male dogs.
They have all been Black Labs...IMHO there is no better looking dogs coat, the golden ones and the brown ones rarely shine ...thats just the way they are.
My kids are now 16 & 14 and the dogs are as much a part of the family unit as any one of us...in fact I think the family would miss the dogs more than me!!
I highly recommend Black Labs and can reccommend a breeder near me in Worcestershire.
I hope you find what you want...you wont regret it(most of the time)
I have one tip...if its a male dog call it "Hugh"
It WILL be short for "Hugh little bast*** why have you chewed my shoes"
Stringpants.

However for 14 years he was the most loyal and friendly dog (along with our previous Golden Retriever) you could wish to have.
I'd have one now if we could have a dog, they are the best despite their destructive nature

B2Z - I have found them to be a bit boisterious (sp?) as well
I would love a boxer but something is telling me not to take that plunge
I feel the lab would be better suited to me & my enviroment

I think you'll find most dogs will have a chew at something at sometime. All dogs have different personalities and traites as you probably know
Our boxer has been known to have a gnaw at the door frame - we ended up smothering it in mustard, and he licked it off
If I had a choice I would go for a boxer or lab and more than likely a female.

Another vote for the lab. A bit bonkers but amazing dogs and very fast learners. Our black bitch has just had pups but unfortunately they have all gone. Here's some pics anyway
Mum
Scooby(one of sonic's dogs)
Brooke(one of Al c's dogs)
Douglas(ours)
p.s. they are 3/4 lab x 1/4 collie

As LIttle'Un has put, our boxer has chewed the door frame a couple of times - he grew out of this tho. And other than the great globlets of slobber which seem to ooze out of his chops, he is not a destrcutive animal. We have had boxers since i was a tot and they have been absolutely great..
My sister in law has a black lab, and he has been a complete little ****e!! He has chewed the plaster from her kitchen walls, shredded cushions, towels and good knows what else, has pulled the carpet up from the floor and chewed up nearly everything in the house! He is a crazy loveable little guy, but i would personaly choose the boxer - they are loving & playful and love the odd hug or 20!!!

My ex partner has a 55 varieties (sp?) dog & i was used to hoovering all the time with that, drove me mad at times but hey thats what happens
When we are both at work i think it would be the best thing & keep the dog in the kitchen, that would mean a free roam of that & the conservatory
Thanks for all your pointers

Yeah, my mother in laws retriever (Near enough), eat the house, plaster, wood anything, stupid bloody thing.
Get a bit more of an exciting dog, labs are the Ford Mondeo of the dog world.

apparently the Chocolate Labs are the most boistrous.
I've had Labs since I can remember (I'm 31 now), and have a Cocker Spaniel and just recently, a black Lab dog (@9 weeks old).
He's got an excellent pedigree (several well known hunting dogs in the breeding line) - and wouldn't be without him now, but bl00dy hell - he's the biggest puppy I've ever had. My sister has my dog's sister, and she's tiny in comparison
The key to a good Lab is exercise. These dogs DEMAND alot of exercise each day. Along with at every opportunity, jumping into rivers/water and/or mud/cowsh1t.
Be prepared to have your legs taken from under you when they bring back a branch as a "gift"!!!!
JUst remember, the dog is only as good as his owner/trainer.

As ScoobyDoo said the key to a happy life with a Lab is lots of interesting walks accross muddy fields and including regular swiming in rivers, ponds or the sea. they are a working breed and if you dont keep them tired and stimulated they will destroy the house. As to colours personal preference but i hear that black is the colour for brains and i am told this is supported by the number of Black Labs doing well in the world of trials at the moment.
Personally i would chose a springer but they are even more manic and a lot more work.
Good luck but just becarefull as there are a lot of Labs with Hip and elbow problems so check for known problems in blood lines and follow the breeders advice for exercise.
