Default Bi-polar Affective Disorder

My very dear friend has been suffering from this condition she was 16 and now she is 42.These days when she comes on phone, point comes when she breaks down in tears. She is a very intelligent woman and knows all about the irrational behaviours caused by her illness and is having all the medical help/medication she needs.
The problem is,she is very much on her own and refuses any help offered.I am very worried about her and feel quite concerned for not communicating for days and suffering in silence.
Any idea how you could deal with it if someone you know closely is suffering from it?

Any help will be appreciated if poss.

OK. Well, somebody very close to me is a manic depressive. How do I handle it? By trying to understand the illness. Can I cure it? No. Do I lose patience sometimes? You bet.

In short the illness is what is. Sometimes crippling - sometimes a facilitator of the greatest thoughts and artisitic expression and sometimes, when the lithium has been taken regularly, a non-entity. No snippets of advice or even comprehensive FAQs will enable you to deal with it, but knowing that other people know what you're going through does help.

Godbless,

JT
