Default Which to go for - LCD or normal widescreen TV

Hi,

My TV is to be replaced under insurance and just wondering whether to pay to upgrade to a LCD tv or stay with a 'normal' widescreen tv.

I've searched LCD tv's on here but most of the threads are last summer so any updated comments welcome.

The replacement 'normal' tv will be a 100Hz Sony Tinitron at 28" or 32" (KV28 or 32 CS70S). The two LCD units I'm looking at are a Sony 30" (KLV30HR3S) or Philips 32" (32PF5520D).

Space isn't an issue, but a flat screen will give a little more room obvioulsy but is not a driver in the decision making process.

Thanks.

Max

I personally prefer a CRT if you can accommodate one. LCD is great for a nook in the bedroom and such like.

No shout downs here Olly. Picture quality Vs picture quality the CRT will kick the LCD's ***. I wouldn't want anything else as my main goggle box

Cathode ray.

Consider Phillips too - Sony internals are Phillips made these days apparently, albeit that they put them together a bit better. You might get a few extra features for the price... can't have too many SCART sockets imo.

CRT for me too.

Personally, I think Sony have recently lost the plot on quality

Plasma, a well set up plasma with good connections and a good signal feed and you have 1 hell of a picture

Heard these need re-gasing - is that expensive/frequent?

Overwhelming with regard to crt so far then.

Also someone at work has thrown rear projection in to the frame now that these are more slender - and appear cheaper too if not rather on the large screen size wize.

myth, plasmas dont need regassing at all. the new generation of panasonic glass is good for 60k hours

60k hours divided by 8 hours (average use per day)
give 7500 days worth of use which is equilent to 20 years.....

like a say, a half decent plasma set up correctly with a good signal feed will give plenty of enjoyable hours of watching

Do you know any stores that have one set up in this manner? Always been really dissapointed by plasmas when I have seen them in a shop.

to be honest your best bet is go looking for specialist shops like a panasonic dealer etc rather than your average john lewis whos running 5 plasmas off the same feed. Seriously have a look for a specialist in your local area

Ive got a panasonic viera and Im over the moon with it. look for any excuse to stick the PS2 or a DVD on... even NTLs picture is of really good quality. granted there are expensive RGB leads helping it on its way....

The latest DLP rear projectors are superb, even better than CRT in many respects, not sure if you can get a screen size as small as 32" though.

Personally, I'd go for a 32" lcd, making sure it's HD compatible. When Sky introduce their HD boxes next year, the CRT advantage will be lost.

CRT. Good image quality is cheaper to buy via CRT versus LCD / plasma routes.

I like my 52" DLP Toshiba http://media.venda.com/electricshop/...s52wm48p_f.jpg

I had a normal Rear Projection before and this beats it hands down.
