looking for some nice countryside to camp in
Looks like the weather is going to be good next week so were going to get the tent out and spend a few nights down south.
Im looking for advice on where to go. Been to the lake district and the dales and fancy someting along the same lines but perhaps a tad further south??
Anyone been somewhere good or do you live in such an area??
Any tips on areas and campsites would be great
Thanks
J

New Forest in Hampshire is pretty nice, but I agree with The Chief - get yourself up to the North West Highlands, miles nicer than anywhere south of the border although the midgies could be an issue at this time of year!

By the time they've got from Scotland to Devon or Cornwall, it'll be time to turn round and head home
Somewhat shorter to get to:
Yorkshire Dales
North Yorkshire Moors (although still soggy and some places cut off after the rain last week)
Peak District
Downside is that if it's nice, everywhere will be busy. Less popular places to try might be the Howgills or Forest of Bowland.

West Wales is lovely as is anywhere in Snowdonia and the north western coast of North Wales. How about heading further north in Scotland? We've just come back from a weeks camping at Lossiemouth on the Moray Coast and it was awesome, I absolutely loved it, the beaches are beautiful and so unspoilt. On our last day there we took a boat trip on Loch Ness in the morning, spent the afternoon 4000+ feet up at the top of Cairn Gorm then relaxed on the beautiful beach in the evening - it was quite a day

Cheers for the fee back folks.
I just thought we could try somewhere south as we have been round Scotland so many times.
Like I said, the weather is set to be alot nicer down the country than Scotland is, so I thought we could make the best of it.
Cheers

know what you mean about the weather - my cousin from dumfries commented a couple of times that they'd see the temperatures in essex and think lucky buggers! walked up ben nevis earlier this month and the scenery was great. weather was pretty miserable though!
would agree with chrisb re how long it's going to take you - take a look here though http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ (and don't be put off by the name, it does appear to be listing sites for tent camping...)

The weather is not looking to good for some areas over the next few days
See below
I'm off to Lake District this afternoon
.................................................. .
Here is an ADVANCED WARNING of Heavy Rain affecting England and Wales.
Issued by the Met Office at 06:59 on Thursday, 23 June 2005.
The Met Office is forecasting the current mini heat-wave to break down with thunderstorms developing across England and east Wales in the next 36 hours. The storms are expected to arrive across Wales and southwest England on Thursday night, transferring N/NE into other parts of England during Friday. The storms could be severe and long lasting with squally winds and large hail.
Torrential downpours of the order of 60mm in a 3 hour period are possible with total accumulations reaching 100mm or more locally.
Such rainfall totals could lead to significant flash flooding, particularly in areas prone to rapid runoff.
The area at greatest risk of disruption is expected to extend from eastern parts of SW England and central-southern England northeastwards across the Midlands and E/NE England, but even within this area, some regions will escape the worst of the storms.
For enquiries regarding this warning - please contact your regional Met Office.
