Slipknot
Am I missing the point, have heard a lot about them over the last few years but never really seen them or heard their music, I did know about the masks, Dead Crows in jars and general weirdness but saw them on the Kerrang channel and thought they were utter crap, maybe its my age (34) and you have to be 13 to appreciate them, I dont suppose they do Slipknot cardigans...

I guess i'm a fan though not a devotee, I only like a few of their songs but they do an awesome live show. IMO one of those bands that sound way better playing live, not sure why.

Hey, I'm 33 and listen to Slipknot. They appeal to a huge age range but get tagged with kiddy nu-metal when, in fact, they are so much more. From a musicianship point of view they are superb and Joey Jordison (drummer) is one of the best around at the moment (and pulls it off live no probs).
Takes time to get into their music as it's not an easy listen by any stretch of the imagination. For me, Vol 3 is the best album as it's sheer breadth of songs is stunning but all their albums are worth 5 stars.

Forget what age you are. They aren't everyone's cup of tea but I saw them live and they were totally mind blowing!! Visually they were outrageous and scary but totally fascinating... and those guys can play instruments like you wouldn't believe. THAT'S what made them so good!

I have seen them in concert, these guys are awesome, anyone that can play instruments like that, for that amount of time deserves some kind of recognition.
I have always liked my music 'hard', and will admit that when these guys showed up I was a little sceptical, but they are still here and personally they keep getting better. Go buy "The Subliminal Verses" and listen to Welcome and The Nameless ...... fantastic
Maggs - I would never have guessed you were a 'headbanger'

I'm 37 and am a fan of their music, again though I've always been into what I describe as music with "guts" in whatever genre that may be from the likes of Slipknot through trance to some classical works.
The only music I've categorically never been a fan of is the manufactured boy/girl band stuff.
The guys in Slipknot may be a bit different when acting out the part, but boy can they play.

I'm 45 and listen to the 'knot regularly. Iowa wasn't particularly good but the first album and Subliminal Verses are masterpieces. Takes a little bit of getting into if you don't like metal I suppose but once you are hooked...
BTW, Mudvayne's new album "Lost and Found" is a corker as well!!!
Related question - they finally started selling Metal Hammer over here and for the first time I'm reading about some genre of music called "emo". Wassat all about??? I'm familiar with metal, rock, death-metal, nu-metal, hardcore, etc. etc. etc. but never heard of emo before.

Joey Jordison earned so much respect when he played his own set and then stepped in for an ill Lars Ulrich and played a full second set with Metallica
Slipknot rock
Definately "Left Behind" & "Wait and Bleed" are worth listening to, also "My Plague"

I thought emo was in Sesame Street...
Emo stands for Emotional melodic punk music.. You decide who fits into that particular bracket but The Ramones are credited as one of the first emo bands.

Thanks Jap2Scrap...I can't get emo phillips outta my head for some reason. I suppose emo includes all those toy bands like The Rasmus, LostProphets, etc. -- and yeah, I've got their CDs'n'all, the kids like 'em.
