Taking part in the passportes du soleil 70k event on sunday, 3 countries, 11 chairlifts, 1000's of metres of singletrack descents.

Then got a week of guiding riding, culminating in the le tour glacier run next saturday!

Excited???

You bet!

Camera? Check. Body armour? Check. Factor 30? Check. 4-pot 8inch brakes?? Check!

Here's hoping I make it back in one piece!

I'm hoping to make it out British Columbia (Fernie) next summer. The number of trails is enough to make you drool.

I took my S Works hardtail last year and my teeth are still loose. However, my new (used) mount (Turner 5 Spot) arrived yesterday and I can't wait to get all the bits transplated and give her a go.

I was in Morzine about a month ago - stayed in a friend's chalet and was lucky enough to only have to pay for the flights - £60 with BA (The airline, not the "I pity the fool!" bloke)

Very nice part of the world - take a ride up to Avoriaz if you get the chance - some great places to throw yourself and a bike down if that's your pleasure.

I'm going to have to stick with my old Marzocchi Bombers (2002) for the time being. The new Rockshox Seba got a cracking write-up in this month's MBR - a whisker under 300 notes as well.

Any recommendations?

I've got the Fernie Alpine Resort trail map in front of me. 34 routes, although me thinks I won't be trying the triple diamond (aka nutter) stuff. Then there's the other routes.

Even better, friends of my girlfriends sister have a house out there (they are big snow borders) and we have can it for £300 a week. It sleeps 10 and has a hot tub

Always fancied going in summer, go to Les Gets (Next resort across from Morzine) most winters and I can imagine biking down those pistes would be mint, enjoy !

I have just got a new ride too.

Yeti 575 on Fox Talas RLC forks. Full XTR, King, Thompson, Hope etc. BLING

Second ride on it last week, arm ripped off bars by a tree sent me flying!

One very bent hanger and huge graze and cuts on my elbow! Ouch

Still, all good fun

Well, the way I look at it is this ...... since Mrs Moose stole my Klein hardtail, I've only really got the S-Works full suspension bike, the On-One singlespeed, and the road bike.

On that basis, I need another bike, hence a Nicolai Argon ROCC is on order. Spec to be fully decided, but Rohloff hub gears are a certainty. The frame is going to be a custom one (long travel geometry, clearance for 2.6" tyres), hence a 3-month wait.

Just got to work out what brakes/rims/front hub/bars/stem to go for, then I should have a bombproof winter bike with gears that work in all conditions.

I was out there for the last 2 weeks of July. First time out to Morzine in the summer and I am going back next year - absolutly awesome place to ride with courses to suit everybody.

I ended up bying a downhill bike for the holiday (I was going to use my Trek Liquid) as the group I was with was mainly into downhilling but don't let that put you off, our guide was going as fast as the rest of us on an XC bike!

And theres me debating whether to spend ~£600 on my 2000 Marin Mt Vision for disc brakes (+wheels) and some new forks (Manitou MarsC don't seem to be working very well anymore but I've never liked them that much). Insignifcant amount of cash compared to your new rig.

Not sure whether to splash the cash or save up and buy a new bike

TBH it's not going to be too awful, price-wise. Frame will come in at under £1k, I've already got some Manitou Sherman bolt-through forks spare, so all I really need are wheels, brakes, and the Rohloff hub. I've got sufficient finishing kit hanging around (bars, crank, BB, stem, saddle) to not need to buy anything else.

Total build cost will be sub £2.5k unless I decide to get silly on componentry, and I'm trying to restrain myself, so things like carbon bars are definitely out.

Out of curiousity, how much are the Rohloff hubs? Are they reliable? Do you need a special frame to fit them? (I assume you must do)
