Anyone organised their own Round The World trip?
Seeing as I have 2 weeks of holidays to take next year anywhere in the world (2 x 1 week in different places) and I just have to pay for the flights I'm going do the full circum-navigation job. Our initial holiday destination to use these 2 weeks was going to be Hawaii but seeing as it's on the other side of the world we might as well have a few stop-offs here and there and make the best of it.
Any recommendations for organising the whole trip over the t'internet?
I have a feeling I've got too many places to fit into a 3 week trip so it'll need trimming down (or do a 2nd trip in 2008 )
UK >> Dubai >> Thailand >> Hong Kong >> Toyko >> Hawaii >> LA >> New York >> UK
TBH the NY stop-off was only intended to break-up the final flight.

Up to you, but sounds horrible to me. You'll spend half your holiday in taxis and departure lounges. I'd stick to as few locations as possible and try and enjoy my time there. Your choice though

agree with brendan, I always wanted to take 2 weeks travelling cities of europe with the misses, spend a night or 2 in each city before moving on should be plenty IMO but as the woman pointed out we'd be living out of a suitcase for 2 weeks and it'd be awful, there'd be no relaxing, cant unpack what you have or anything, Id still love to do it though, dont get many chances so you gotta take them

I'm not a great flyer TBH - it doesn't bother me,it just bores me rigid and I get too fidgitty, which is why I've gone for a few stops. Thinking of having the week stays in Thailand & Hawaii BTW but will need to check up on being limited to set weeks.
Looked at expedia before - I thought they were quite expensive compared with going direct.

You also need to think about the jet lag.
I agree with less stops and try to fit in the other places another time.
Don't rush the trip or you will not be able to appreciate the places you visit.

In September I'm going to Oz to see a couple of mates who moved down there, to Sydney and Brisbane, for 8 days then I'm going over to NZ to have a quick look at the North Island for 7 days and see a mate from school there. Then off to Fiji for 2 weeks for a bit of a relax and fly back to the UK via LAX.
I didn't want to split the holiday up too much, everyone said I should go to the Malaysia or Thailand for a few days but then it would feel like I'm constantly on the move so I decided to have as much time as I could in Fiji at the end of the trip to unwind.
I am intending to go back to Oz and NZ so I can explore a bit more, especially NZ as I would like to spend some time in the South Island.
I just went into a travel agent and they organised it all and I think I ended up with normal scheduled flights rather than a RTW ticket.

I've just returned from a 'round the world trip' (UK -> Singapore -> Thailand -> OZ -> NZ -> Fiji -> USA -> UK) which ended up being UK -> Thailand -> Singpaore -> OZ -> Thailand -> Laos -> UK, in just under 4 months in total.
What're you looking for out of the trip, and what's your budget?
3 weeks isn't enough IMO.

No real budget in mind, but the 2 weeks worth of hotels are paid for and we want to get the benefit of using them on "distant shores". Thinking more about it - may choose to spend them in places that aren't necessarily package deal hotspots like Toyko.
The US & Thailand you can get brochures on and just go.
So, might do Hong Kong 3/4 days >> Toyko 3/4 days >> Hawaii 7 days >> LA (poss Acapulco) 7 days >> Miami 2/3 days. This way I'm getting a lot of the traveling out of the way in the beginning.
PS - is the Date line cross between Toyko & Hawaii? I think I need to get an atlas. There's so many places I want to see and not enough time to do them in one trip...

We did hong kong 2nights,sydney 5nights,new zeland 5nights and las vegas 4nights. 52 hours of flying in 3 weeks! You dont get chance to get jet lagged as your always doing something and going places.Make usa your last call and you gain time back.We left nz at 11am and got into la at 8am the same morning before flying into vegas. Well worth the money,we booked through british airways,i think it was about £2500 for the two of us for the flights only.

Oz and NZ are other places in mind, but might do them another time.
Main problem now is what to do with the little lad - he's only 9 months at the moment and I don't expect we'll be taking him.
Better start saving...especially as we need a extension built next year!

Hello
I did: Bangkok (3 nights), Sydney (5 nights), Cairns (4 nights), Hawaii (5 nights) and LA (2 nights). It was great. And as you are going the same way around the world, the tickets are usually pretty cheap.
