Red face Safety Camera Van???

Hi!

Have I been caught speeding? A57 Westbound out of Sheffield (in Derbyshire, just!) a white transit van with dayglo yellow & ornage chevron markings parked behind dense bushes in a layby! Out of the top was a telescopic pole about 30 feet tall with a black globe hung from it. Behind plain glass in the back windows 2 cameras trained on the road. The only identifying marks were on the back doors and all it said was "Police Cameras"

It didn't look like th run of the mill safety camera vans I've seen round here. Could it be some kind of surveillance van or should I expect a NIP?

it does sound like a surveillance camera van and not a speed van, i have not heard of them combining the two yet, but who knows what they will do.

cheers.

I would of thought that a snooper would of been no good, because if it did go off they would have already of got your speed.

cheers

It sounds like the van that looks for tax disc, insurance, dodgers and dodgy reg plate unit.We have them around Leeds Bradford and usually there is a few police cars parked up to half a mile away pulling offenders in,usually in both directions.Speed vans just have a camera stuck in the back with a cash machine sign near by..oops i mean a speed camera sign.

Unhappy

Sorry to say it but two cameras in the back windows and one on a 'turret' suggests speed cameras and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) all in one van.

A couple of days ago I was heading down the M9 when I saw a white Transit sitting on a bridge so slowed down. As I passed I saw it said VOSA test vehicle - there is a VOSA test area nearby where they check HGV's for overloading, tachographs, etc.

Coming back about 20 minutes later I was in hot pursuit of a BMW 530i

He slowed down when he saw the van.

I didn't

I did say it was an ANPR van, but then as usual on this site, the people who know what they're talking about get shouted down..............
