Question Repairing Oakley shades

I've read here a few times that people send their Oakleys back and get them repaired FOC. But no-one said the age of the shades involved.

I've a pair of polarised wires, now about 3 yrs old (maybe more but I don't think they're 4 yet), and the coating on the front is very badly chipped. Some is my fault - chipped in the middle where I dropped them - but some is frankly poor quality coating as it's peeled off at the edges. The price I paid for them, I'd expect them to last more than that.

Of all the success stories, were they sent back within a limited period, or do you think mine are worth a try? (I'm loathe to be without them for a month over the summer, just in vain...) And did you specifically ask for a replacement, or just repair? And was this to Oakley UK, or Europe, or does it all go to the US?

Thanks

Brendan

I had a pair of "New frogskins" about 7 years old & sent them back, due to the fact they didn`t do those anymore I got 50% off a new pair :thumb
It`s worth a go

I sent mine back when the arm broke, they asked for a cheque for £10, which would cover them under warranty for another year and repair them under that warranty. The problem was that they had stopped making the colour, so they asked which colour I would like and replaced the entire frame for new ones, and even polished the hell out of my lenses so they were as good as new when they came back.

Not bad considering they were 6 years old!!

now THAT IS customer service, a lot of companies could learn something from Oakley.

P.S. Mine were back within a fortnight.

I had a set of Frogskins years ago and my sister sat on them and broke on of the arms off

I sent them back to Oakley, they were about two years old at the time, and got them repaired free of charge

And even had an advice note in with it to take better care of the lenses, as there were a few scratches on them

Top marks for customer service

Ive had several pairs sent back to them for various reasons, generally wear and tear.

Never been charged a penny, and always mega quick service!

I once sent a pair of 5 year old M frames back that had cracked, and as they had discontinued that shape frame, they replaced the entire frame with a new shape one

Need to send my beloved first geneation E wires (pretty rare as it goes) back soon for new nose rests and replacement lens or recoated (slightly scratched blue iridium....)

As regards your other questions, they are done in house at the Uk centre, and will be back with you in a week, two tops.

top stuff.

Anyone got a number for Oakley UK? Need to send 2 pairs back. Last time I spoke to them I was told that you could pay £20 extended warrenty & they'd replace the frame/lenses if required.

They were real nice with me on the phone too, very helpful.

Pity I've defected to Ray Ban's!

Still got my oakleys for proper sports tho!

Nice one! My EyeJackets are perfect after five years, apart from the printed on 'Oakley' namestyle which has rubbed off. They look like I bought them from a Turkish street vendor now! I'll give them a call.

I bought a pair of really loud orange Oakleys (forget what model) from a mate who bought them in the US but didn't like them. They were quite old when I bought them and the arms got broken off. I rang them and they said they don't make that model so send it back and take 50% off any of our current range.

That was at least 7 years ago and I still have the replacement pair today.

One of the few companies I know with awesome customer service.

Cool

Good to hear of a company taking care of their customers like that...

Slightly off-topic - Anyone had any experience of Ray-Bans' customer service - Couldn't get Oakleys as my head is too fat

My Ray-Bans need a service since my 2-year old got a hold of them

Thanks

Freak, that's where I live.

Might be in UK mid/end August, perhaps I can wait until then.

Edit - just looked on the Oakley site, Portugal is serviced by the Paris centre, so I might as well wait until I'm in the UK.

Probably best to wait until then. I'll lay good money you won't need a pair of shades in Britain in August

Right, I've just been charged £19 for the frame repair (a week after I posted this I snapped an arm off, durr) and £52 for new lenses, apparently a 40% discount. Doesn't seem as generous as for you lot, but I appreciate getting the lenses swapped from blue to black. Blue is sooooo turn of the century...

That's fantastic I bought my first pair of Oakleys a month ago at the airport and after hearing these stories the money they cost doesn't sound unfair

Brought my 2nd pair at the airport last Aug. Sent them off to Oakley 3 weeks ago as had a scratch on one of the lenses. The cost was £50 for a new pair of lenses and was told they would be back within 5 days....

didnt mind paying.. but it would have been nice to have the sunglasses back. I phoned Oakley last week to enquire where they were and was told they had been sent out..

It appears some lovely person at the post office is walking around with a very nice pair of sunglasses...

Oakley have promised to send me a brand new pair out... I expect they will claim off the PO but they were really nive about it and said they have had loads of problems with missing items recently...
