Default M4 Commuters - Berkshire bit!

OK chaps - thinking of moving house and are looking at the Wantage/ Thatcham/ Newbury/ Hungerford general direction.

Anyone commute from there to the Reading area? What's it like? How long does it take? Any handy detours we should be thining about....?

Cheers!

Need some specifics:
Where exactly in Reading do you want to commute to ?
What time do you need to arrive / depart ?

Wantage to Reading - you wont use the M4. A417 takes between 30mins to an hour.

I do the Hungerford to Reading bit every day. It's not great but you can avoid the worst - flexitime is a must. After junc 12 east bound in a morning is a bit sticky after about 7:30.

I travel really early (6am) or join the M4 at Hungerford at about 9:15am depending on early/late shift and find I never hit traffic....he says, tempting fate.

I don't know the area very well, but had an interview that way of the world last week, so have been doing a little research (Sister-in-law comes from Reading). Thatcham runs into Newbury, but if you were on Eastern side of Thatcham, I believe you'd be better using the A4 (rather than going West through Thatcham and Newbury and then up onto M4). Someone who regularly does that route will probably contradict me now, but if so it might be helpful to me!

And the very next day, 7th June, I ended up in 10 miles of queuing traffic between 11 and 13 on the Eastbound. Told you I was tempting fate. Ended up turning off and going home.
