Question Six Sigma Training?

I'm about to get a tasty payout following a Voluntary Redundancy application from my employers. I'm looking to use some of this payout to formally acquire formal six sigma training.
Being out of work (as I will be in 3 weeks) means that attaining a green belt accreditation would be tricky as no in life projects to manage...
So, does anyone on here know what the value of yellow belt accredititation adds to a CV?
Also can anyone recommend a UK based training company to use for this?
I am familiar with the basics of the course content having used the methodology for 2 years in my soon to be destroyed role....
Thanks

Six Sigma is a data driven problem solving methodolgy.

used by companys to eliminate defects in products and processes to improve cost, cycle time, quality and customer satisfaction.

My current employer sent one man on a Six Sigma mission - he then brought back the entire training package and rebranded it so it was only any use within my company... (dodgy)...So while I have Six Sigma appreciation I cant be anymore specific than that on my cv, hence the need to start over formally with whomever the best trainers are...

Six Sigma works in 4 levels

Level 1 and 2 are Anaylsts

Level 3 is agent
Level 4 is Master agent

i know we have 2 agents at work i'll ask them tommorow and get back to you.

God only knows why our agents stay at our company on 45k a year when they could be earning 60-70K

I've seen an awful lot of job adverts that specify "at least yellow belt". Therefore, I'd guess a lot of companies value that you have it, and will probably accept that you can move to green belt if you're using it.

Put it another way, if I was out of work, with some of the jobs I'm looking at applying for, I would go and get the yellow belt.

Thumbs up

Maybe not much help to you mate.

The attainment of the course is significant.

I did see a Black Belt's vacancy advertised at £70K recently.

Aye, in the Central Belt, for a change.

Not doubting you, but where would you get to it in 2 hours? Even though I don't need it at the moment, if I could get it that quick/cheap I would - as mentioned above, I've seen yellow belt as a requirement in a fair number of job adverts.

Only good on the CV if you are applying to a large American company, preferably GE.

Very few UK companies recognise it.

I only know about it because my wife is a green belt, and I work for an American company which has close ties with GE.

I guess it depends on the field you work in, but an ITIL qualification would be much more useful to me.

Depends what you want from it..

6 sigma is ultimatly a managers tool,

often it will walk away from a problem once certain constraints are reached.

we had a debate with a sigma team whilst carrying out our diploma course, and even they admitted it was based round a financial method of problem solving..

all well and good if you can walk away from the problem, unfortunatly as QE for my company regardless of whether 6 sigma works or not, we have to give the customer a solution. we cant say no value or not cost effective.

I'm from a process / project / people management background within the telecoms industry and all your comments are interesting and are helping me decide - thanks.
I have seen a lot of yellow belt requirements and normal course durations are 2 days and around £800. Still its hard to find trainers locally which would mean residential courses - not a problem for 2 days but i want it to be with a training organisation worth their salt and the web is full of web based / classroom based training companies so its hard to tell where to go.
I guess that even the yellow is an easily attained accreditation it shows a willingness to want to build up to GB and BB and an understanding of the methodology. Its suprising how many companies now specifically mention it as a pre-requisit, which makes me think how many others see it as desirable...

I work for a company in aircraft maintenance and we have six sigma Cr*p.

In total 6 black belts,18 green belts, and a whored of yellow belts have saved us.......£31K in two years.

Not bad when you think it cost over 125K to hire just the black belts per year.
