How Much Do YOU Save Each Month?
Looking at the latest survey ... not many people save anything these days
I come from a time when I had very little and have an inbuilt urge to save for a rainy day.
Consequently I save about 75% of my monthly income ..... find it very difficult to spend anything more than 25% to be honest.
So, how about you lot ......................

Another thread about how much money you have, pslewis?
If I remember rightly, doesn't that work out about £3000 a month?
I don't save anything, I may have money left at the end of the month, but I don't consciously save, pretty much everything goes on expensive rent, running cars, and a high end social life!
Rainy days = credit card application.

2000TLondon:- If you have money left each month, then thats savings - you muppet!!
And, no, its NOT a thread about me (you will notice the % rather than the amount!).
75% might mean ANYTHING ....... but, like you - some will feel a need to try and put an amount to it .... I'm not going to!
It's a general interest question ..... if I said nothing then I would have been asked, so I said anyway!
Dear me, it's just an innocent thread!!

I don't save at all, I just follow the governments example and spend everything that comes in and then borrow against the possibility of future income to top it up and fuel my spending urges.
I am a student though!

touchy, pslewis! saving in my book is intentionally putting an amount aside each week or month. This I don't do. If I don't spend it all, I don't spend it all, but I don't consciously save, which following your initial thread, is a good enough answer!
C'mon, you know you just want to let us know you're "comfortable to affluent!"

I likewise don't always save a regular amount, but my total savings and investments are more than my annual take-home pay - which to my mind allows for several "rainy days" - or perhaps a new T25 when the urge takes me

My wife doesn't work so it's all down to me.
Currently paying around £8k a year into pension together with employer.
After that and tax I bring home around £2.5k a month.
I'm over paying mortgage by around £350 a month.
I tend to save for future outgoings like holidays, big purchases, car purchases and insurance.
I keep a slush fund but don't really save to build up a savings account, I think any spare money is better used paying extra of the mortgage.
Cheers

Question makes no real sense
1)Lots of different ways to save, ie cash in bank, pay mortgage for second/third property, make AVCs, reduce capital owing on mortgage and the list goes on.
The worst way of saving is putting it into accounts earning 3.5-4% interest and then paying 40% tax on it while paying 6% compound on your mortgage!!
2) The absolute amount you put in does matter. Putting 90% of £100 a month is never going to see you well in your retirement, whereas even 30% of £10k a month may well(if invested wisely)

unfortunately, KIDS have pretty much kyboshed mine & wifey's savings regime..... not that I could give a toss really. The choice between having offspring or loads of money saved is a no-brainer really.
Starting to save a bit more, but TBH, I think the idea of "saving" is a little bit out-dated now.
All IMHO, of course!
