Hello
Following on from the buying land thread
Has anyone ever built there own house in the uk ??
What problems did you have ??
Is it really worth it ??
Basically i am looking for a few sites that supply kit houses, got a half decent budget so kinda no what i want & i am staying back at my parents so saving well

i thought i read moses thread with kit build houses a little while back.
My dad built his place in the states..
i wouldnt mind giving it a go myself........although how much sense it makes here i dont know.

Have just got PP for a place in Ireland - works out at approx £200K all in for a 2500sq ft hs or thereabouts but I've not had to pay for the land.
Saying that, 700 sq ft (of space) properly built garage was a lot less (proportionaly) but then you're looking at higher fittings costs (kitchen/bathroom/flooring etc) for a house.
I think building costs these days are around £70 per sq ft

bought a site for 60k - spent 120k on the build, house has been valued at between 250-300k (cos of the stamp duty thing) - A 5 bed house with an acre of gardens can't be bought for anything like 180k, so it certainly seems like a good plan to me
